    Faulty display Sony KDL-55hx955 / KDL-55hx950

    Hi All,
I need some advice on this issue and what is it's called so I can do some research. On start up, it's a blueish screen then the picture slowly tries to come in from the left then across the screen. You can see that there are colours there with waves of light so it's trying to produce the image. I have posted a video of it:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa2aKYaaXok

Would it most likely be the T-Con or the LF board? I don't think it's the panel as it's still producing colours and responds to the T-Con cables being in or out, but I'm probably wrong.

Any help would be appreciated. I can't find this issue anywhere, mainly due to not knowing what to search for.

    Thanks!

Try having the ribbon cables between the LCD panel and the T-CON board connected one at a time to see what you will get. Any one else worked on this TV before?

Not sure what this means sorry. What ended up causing your issue?

Hi, thanks for replying. Had some time today to have a look at it:
Cable 1 only: Right side of screen slowly turns white. Left side with just backlight.
Cable 2 only: No display. Backlight only.
Cable 1 and 2: The original issue, just on the right side of the screen.
Cables 3 and 4: Same result as above except for the left side of the screen.

sorry typo. I was saying I a very similar issue I was cycling through the service menu and when the wrong model screen was selected it caused a similar issue to yours. It could be the av boad and you could attempt to reset the chip via jumpers but its very advanced and I would wait on others opinion but attempting last resorts

Oh I see. I'd be willing to try, but not sure if it's available on Sony's. I could only find that option on the gosammy site for Samsungs unfortunately.

Oh, and to answer budm's second question. I don't believe it's been worked on before. The previous owner said it wasn't and it doesn't seem to have been, but you never know.

My guess is it's another case of a bad LCD panel. Sorry.

Bugger. Matt I ask how you came to that conclusion? Trying to learn, that's all. How do you even get a bad panel?

Modern LED-LCD panels seem to be short lived unfortunately. The fault is usually caused by some failure on electronics (driver ICs) controlling the panel, unfortunately these are bonded to the panel and cannot be replaced.

My conclusion is drawn from past experience. Effects like this are nearly always panel faults.

It sounds too far gone, but try playing with the panel ribbons. Careful they aren't exposed too long, they are cooled by the metal frame, I actually had an old sony burn a hole in the ribbon around an IC chip one time while I was fiddling with it.

Most likely it is the ribbon at either end of the panel that has failed. Try pressing those or moving them slightly. If you have any luck, try this:

Again, don't get your hopes up, it sounds like it's failed past fixable.
