I had picked this toshiba set up from a wanted add i placed the ste was free it was in the box with stand remote and user manual it had been looked at previously by a repairer who gave up so some quick checks revealled 2 sec to black problem.I tried with four different test ccfl still save issue looked on psu and notced every capacitor had been removed and replaced with the existing ones (repairer removed and tested i guess) then i saw a brand new inveter transformer TMS94481CT so i emailed the person who gave the the tv to comfirm this part had been replaced and he had actually brought one from china and had it fitted the new transformer read s1 to s2 open circuit s3 to s4 1.56 k primary read 00.5 now i ordered a uk replacement part that read s1 to s2 0.90 s3 to s4 0.90 primary 00.5 so yes the new part the owner ghad brought was faulty so it proves some parts from china do need to be tested before fitting dont persume there working as can lead you on a wild goose chase.The set has been working 100% since not a bad picture either and the inbuilt dvd player even works too.

sounds like a nice easy fix, just replaced a couple darfon transformers in a phillips yesterday, after I put it all together I tested only to find one of my brand new transformers wasnt up to snuff, gotta love them parts from china (good thing I ordered extras)

too be honest i bet the one i ordered from the uk came from china anway just triple the price the only good thing it came next day and worked fine glad you sorted your set out too.

Vince what were the symptoms of failure backlight flashes on then off ?

yes about two seconds maximum changed the transformer all was good

Sweet thank you I have one same issue however transformer checks fine will replace it and see.

for the price of the transformer its worth a try ive just saw your post and you have already tried the lamps like i did so last resort i tried the transformer and it worked ok this is who i used

whats your transformer read out of circuit?
