Samsung LE37R87BD Poor Colour and Very Short Term Image Retention

    Hi

I have been given the above model of TV and upon testing there is a fault where the colour is "wrong" (looks too orange/red - like an old TV when you turned the colour control up) and when there is a caption, something like a news set where the background is static or the menu is selected the image of that is temporarily ghosted on the screen and fades over a few minutes.

Any ideas if this is a simple fix where a component is dying/died or is it a skip job?

Probably fixable - sounds like a "gamma chip" fault. Do you have a camera to take a picture of the set's boards?

Yes I do, what in particular should I be photographing, or just all of it?

A picture of the T-con board. If you're unsure on which board this is, take a photo of the whole set.

Is it possible to get a shot under the wall bracket or to remove that bracket.

Top left hand corner of board you'll see a bunch of test points marked VGAMA1 through VGAMA22.
Test the voltage on each of these points with a digital multimeter.
Use 20V range, red probe on each point, black probe on chassis.
Report your readings for each VGAMA point.

I am so glad we have been discussing and finding these faults in the gamma chips. Ever since we had the big blow up in tv's having bad gamma chips I have picked up 3 tv's with bad ones within a two week span off craigslist which is rare.

Lol thanks for that! So I either have to replace the chip or (easy option) the board yeah?
