Samsung LN40A500 color (gamma?) problem / errors

Hello,

About 6 months ago the colors on my Samsung LN40A500T1FXZA suddenly became inaccurate (see attached photo). I did a factory reset, and swapped out the logic board (or what I think is the logic board – it has the coax and HDMI connectors built in) as I had a spare (I broke the RF connector off my original board). Neither of these changes had any effect. I was able to make the picture tolerable by going into the service menu and changing “gamma” from default (1.0 I think?) to 0.85 (see second picture) and changing the normal picture controls.

I have decided I would like to fix the TV. After reading some posts on this site, I think I need a new T-CON board or gamma IC. My gamma values are:

8: 9.10
9: 8.10
10: 6.92
11: 6.43
12: 6.53
13: 9.90
14: 9.28
15: 6.11
16: 3.72

Do you think my gamma IC is bad? If so, can you recommend a supplier for the gamma IC (AS19-H1G 0822 B8308?27), or preferably the whole T-CON board. I do not think my soldering skills are up to replacing the gamma IC, so I would prefer to replace the whole board unless the cost is prohibitive.

Yes, it is bad. AS19 can b found on EBAY, but removing it and installing it will need SMD tools.
You can check shopjimmy.com for the replacement T-CON.

Shopjimmy.com did not stock my T-CON board, but I found a compatible one on ebay. I installed it and everything seems to be working normally so far.

Is the Gamma issue the black colour not displaying right ? (as my Samsung seems to be having an issue with the black being more a purple colour

@rayban, can we see the screen shot of the picture? You can also take the Gamma voltage readings to see if they are OK.

Just want to follow up on this thread and say thank you. My Samsung LN40A500 had massive picture problems. I left it sit for a year and finally was like, I need to fix it or pay the $25 to recycle it. $40 later... I have a brand new looking TV! Replacing the T-con was super easy, too.
