LG 50PS3000 Pink/Red Haze and Grainy Picture

    Hi All,

So I have the 50" LG PS3000 TV that has developed red haze (which looks to me more like a pink haze). After doing some research I purchased a repair kit that contained a number of parts to solder on to the controller and z sus board. The Z sus board had a total of 9 parts replaced which where:

    Q13 / Q14
    Q15
    ZD201
    R201
    R209
    R457 / R458
    C201

And also the controller board had these replaced:

    C8
    C9
    C14
    C15
    C31
    C39
    C652
    C653

Initially the red haze seemed to have disappeared, however the picture was very grainy. Once 3 minutes had passed the pink haze kicked right in and was back to its normal self. I turned the TV off completely and re-tried, same thing.. grainy picture and after warming up the pink haze kicks right in.

I have no problem purchasing a new board, but I need to get some advise as to which board or boards need to be replaced.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

maybe go over your soldering make sure there all soldered correctly I had a bit of trouble with the small caps on the control board, also may sound stupid but check you have them all in the correct place/position polarity etc

I had trouble with the small diode as it's directly inbetween a heatsink and lots of other parts, I ended up soldering it to the backside instead

Thanks for the reply, I'll go back over them again and double check. Also I was looking in eBay again for a cheap z sus board and I come across another repair service. In his description he states

"Output mosfet transistors (under small, black heatsink) will continue to run hot after switch-on causing premature failure of the board"

Maybe this is something I should look in to as well, the reason being is the pink haze kicks in only after a period of time which to me sounds like what the guy is on about with the MOSFETs heating up.

I wouldn't even mind buying a new board, but on a few threads I've heard the y sus board being mentioned as well as some others so I can't buy the z sus board with confidence. Would you say the z sus is the likely culprit for the grainy and pink haze or could it be something else as well?

        Many Thanks,
        Dan

on my thread tom66 said it was the z-sus, I bought the kit fitted it and never had the sparklies or pink/red haze again

can you link to the kit you purchased?

this is the one I bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271325575779

            Hi again,

Exactly the same mate, so I suppose it could be very likely that something has been soldered wrong. Well I'll have a bash and retrace my steps, and if all else fails maybe take a good few close-up pics of the z sustain board to see if anyone can spot something I've perhaps done wrong.

And thanks for your help, I appreciate it

LG's are known for having a red-dot/sparklies issue, sometimes careful adjustment of Vs, SET-UP/SET-Dn can cure it most times a control-board firmware update is needed though...

AFAIK it doesn't apply to these using a 50H3 panel, too new (2009 generation)
