    Samsung PN51D6500 won't turn on

    Hi,

So I've been shopping for a TV and came across somebody selling a broken Samsung PN51D6500 for $200. "Doesn't turn on anymore. Red light flashes in the front and green light in the back." I asked them about clicking and they say when they plug it in there's an initial click. I'm waiting for more details. Long story short, I know this problem could be anything. I'm no electrician, but I'm curious and don't mind getting my hands dirty. Just curious at what price this could be worth the risk. Worst case, could this TV be parted out to recoup my money? When I know more details about the problem I'll post some more. Just looking for the initial reaction of some people with more experience than me.

    Thanks,
    Daniel

I would never pay anywhere near $200 for a broken tv. Sometimes $100-150 IF I am almost 90% sure of the problem and the fix is cheap.

The parts on these Samsung plasmas are almost worthless on resale value.

They do have a common problem with blown fets on either the X-sus and Y-sus board though., which is an easy and cheap fix. However whenever I purchase a broken tv for $100 or more, I always have to assume that everybody lies and I inspect everything and ask conflicting questions for any red flags.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try and negotiate. Any questions you recommend I ask or big red flags to look out for?

It's always a gamble. These newer panels are a lot more prone to burn in. Stuck lines are also an issue and fairly common. Neither is fixable. So you can't be sure, and you are taking a risk. After nearly 70 TVs total I've probably had 4 complete duds where I got my money back maybe minus 10 or 20%. I've had a few which I've had to sell for parts but been OK otherwise there. Most I've profited well but only because I do component level repair on 90% of the TVs I fix. Only do a board swap if it's impractical to repair or cheaper to swap a part. If you want to swap boards you'll make very little doing TV repair. Just my two pence.
Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Samsung PN51D6500 won't turn on

          Hello all,
I have a PN51D6500 I am working on. It cycles on & off repeatedly. The green LED on the logic board blinks once per second 11 times , then clicks off & then repeats the cycle. When it clicks on the Samsung logo appears on screen & it indicates the TV is in the HDMI 2 setting.

During the time it is on the VS, VA, Vsc & Ve voltages are all correct. I then shorted PS-ON & the test jig on the logic board. The TV powered on & showed a good test pattern. I again tested the VS, VA, Vsc & Ve voltages & they were all correct. Does this indicate the main board(BN94-04728A) is defective or is there another problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

I've also got the same problem with the PN51D6500 that randaldean mentions. Is there a way to turn on the power supply without connecting the main board so I can isolate whether the problem is in the power supply?

Randaldean, did you solve your problem?

I don't ever pay more than between £10 - £15 for any set, that would be around $12 - $18 i guess with the majority of sets picked up as free to collect, this is both lcd and plasma, smart tv's and otherwise. One of the most recent being a 50" Samsung plasma that came in two days ago, that one is simply waiting for some components. About three quarters of my repairs are board level with the remainder being panel replacements, when it is cheaper to do so. I think the most I have ever paid for a panel was £25.00, with the last one costing a lot less.
