    RCA 42pa30rq plasma questions

i have the same issue the x and y main have shorted transistors and the y buffer has a few bad lines. i ordered all 3 but they haven't arrived yet. i have 2 questions on post 14 he states that the new x-main has a SF10A400H Ultra Fast Recovery Diode in location C4019. 1st question is if the board i get doesn't have that diode should i put 1 in that location because i have 1 that i can take off another board or should i just let it the way it is? i figure it might be needed if it was added to the newer revision and it can't hurt if i do put it in. 2nd question is the x-main taking out the y-main and buffer or is the buffer taking out the y-main and x-main if that is possible? i'm not real familiar with plasmas hopefully tom66 might be able to explain what might be going on. i didn't want to start a new thread but i couldn't get a response on the other thread.

this is the thread i am refering to post 14

I'm interested if all three new boards did the trick. Shawn76

yeah but the buffer board i got some how u5401 had 4 of the pins smashed on 1 side and the top part of the screen didn't work. i got a new 1 from the same place that i ordered from and they sent me a new board without any questions asked and they didn't even make me send the old 1 back. i think the buffer board goes bad and takes out the y and x main but sometimes it only takes out the x main in some cases thats just my conclusion. because with the bad buffer board it took out my x main and i had to replace the 2 igbt's on the x main. it's best if you replace them all at the same time and check the buffers for continuity when you first get it. the new x main i got did have the SF10A400H Ultra Fast Recovery Diode in location C4019 the old 1 had a diode on the bottom of the board to do the same thing but i couldn't read the marking numbers off of it to know what kind of diode it was. tv is fixed for now until something else goes bad hopefully that won't be for a while.

glad you got it fixed. normally it is just the x main and the y buffer that goes bad but once in a while it takes the y main also probably depending on how many times you try to power it up with a bad x main and y buffer. your other y main might still be good.

Schematic or datasheet for Plasma TV buffer chip
              by Yanleb
              Hi all,

I'm interested in understanding how a buffer board chip is working. I know there's about 90 outputs per chip to the plasma panel, but I'm more interested to know about the input pins. I guess that some of them are address pins, but I want to know more.

So far I've found nothing at all. I haven't found any datasheet about the various buffer chips, and I haven't found any schematic for the buffer board using them (Y Buffer Board in Samsung's terminology).

Any information will make me happy. It can be from any buffer chip or plasma TV manufacturer....

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

LG Plasma TV Bad Y Buffer Replacement
              by Bad_Boards
              Background:
I have a LG 50PA550 Plasma TV which stopped displaying a picture. The sound works just fine. The outputs of the power supply board were within 2% of the expected values. After removing the Y top buffer the bottom half of the TV started working.
              Question:
Do I have to order both a Y-Buffer and Y-Sustain board to fix this?
Could I somehow check the Y-Sustain board to see if there was any damage done to it?

              Questions about Plasma voltages (PN60E530A3FXZA)
              by Spork Schivago
              Hi!

I am working on a Samsung PN60E530A3FXZA and had some questions. The power supply looked pretty bad. There where heavy burn marks on the two thermistors and all the traces on the cold side from the larger transformer. For the larger transformer, there was discoluration on some of the traces for the hot side as well.

I have seen other SMPS's for this panel that looked similar and replacing the thermistors did not fix the issue. The thermistors readed short circuit.

Anyway, replacing the SMPS wasn't too expensive and I did along with the Y-Sustain board,...

Samsung PN60F5500AF - Now it Glows
              by Renovator
A friend called, a panel I helped install, had just made a pop and lost the picture, still had sound. No previous issues.

Apparently, upon their further toggling there was another smaller pop. When I got there a few days later, No Sound, No glow, the front standby LED counting out a sequence. I pulled the back and the main/control board LED was in the 5 sec fault mode.

I followed a diagnostic that Tom669 had helped a similar set owner with, at AVS:
