Re: Samsung UE40C6510 - Power LED blinking - Not booting up

i would do a psu check of the voltage + rails to ground to see if there arnt any shorted rails there.

the dimming then bright screen scenario..check the dim pin on the connector to mainboard which is used for brightness control and check that for shorts, with psu disconnected and mainboard also.

so check both that dim pin on psu and on mainboard.

i cant remember if that dim pin goes high or low(low for dim, high for bright)
fixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

      Hi Multimeter,

Thanks very much for the suggestions.

When you say the Rails do you mean the pins between the PSU and main board?

If so, i checked the pins and the only ones which are grounded where the GND pins...

Voltages for PSU pins 1 - 18 are:
      Pin|Name|Value
      1 |12v|12.69v
      3 |12v|12.69v
      5 |12v|12.69v
      7 |GND|
      9 |GND|
      11 |5.3V| 5.24V
      13 |5.3V| 5.24v
      15 |Vamp|17.46v
      17 |Vamp|17.46v

      2 |N.C| 5.24v
      4 |Bl_On| 1.54v
      6 |P_Dim 1.17v
      8 |H_Sync| 1.17v
      10 |GND |
      12 |GND |
      14 |5.3V | 5.24v
      16 |STBY| 5.24v
      18 |PS_On| 1.54v

No idea what Vamp is any why it is 17.46v?

With regard to the backlight, it doesnt dim while the LED is blinking, its when the LED stops blinking (I.e. it blinks 5 times, stops, then blinks 5 times etc etc...) and when the led stops blinking, the backlight gets dim then brightens up again...

I checked the diodes on the main board as well (in Situ) and 2 of the diodes seem to be shorted (J873 and J832 - the ones closest to the plug) is it worth soldering these and testing in isolation?

      Thanks again.

      Hope that helps,

      Demon

that ps_on,bl_on voltage seems a little low at 1.54v,is that with tv running?

diodes are marked"dxxxx"normally,"j"means junction usually,if they are diodes, lift one leg of each one,and test out of circuit, you should only see a reading one way on diode test on dmm,if there shottky diodes ,you will have a small amount one way,but not shorted readings

          Hi Multimeter,

Yes all those values are with the tv running... I will dig out the soldering iron over the weekend and get some readings for those Diodes (Just looked again and they are DM856 and DM857).

For future reference, where can i find out what all the prefixes actually mean?

          Thanks again for the help.

the v_amp signal 'may' be for the sound amplification,im not sure though.you could trace the signal and find out where it goes too,or look at the schematic diagram

the prefixes sometimes are found in service manuals, not always though.

            the ones i can tell you are:,ps_on = power supply on,bl_on =backlight on,stb=standby.dim=dimming,gnd = ground

I have the same tV and i checked the diodes and they are shorted too! the ones near the led plug... but if you dissolder them they will give normal readings.... What can be happening?

                  Hi iscle,

chances are they are in parallel with something else so all show as being shorted in situ but actuality be working.... I will check mine tonight as I still have not had a chance.

Does your set have the backlight come on when ti have the cable between the psu and Mb half connected?

                  Cheers

                      UPDATE:

A few days ago i got lucky and bought a cheap UE46C6530 with a different fault (Colored Vertical lines across the screen... I will open a new thread on this as well)

The AV boards are the same (BN41-01444) and when i put my old board (From the 40" tv) into the new 46" TV i got exactly the same symptoms as before (No power on)... This suggests that the old AV board is at fault.

i have yet to install the new board (From the 46") into the old tv yet but will report back as soon as i can.

                      Take care all.

                        UPDATE 2:

A few days ago i fit in a replacement AV board into this TV and it booted right up!

I have a strong suspicion that the component i highlighted earlier was the culprit but unfortunately i have no way of testing this...

Either way - This TV is all sorted! Another one saved from the Dump!

                        Thanks again all,
