Ended up being a bad repair job on the power supply. Repaired the bad components and now all is good. Thanks to all that helped.

I have exactly the same Samsung as NWCS. 2 1/2 years old, power supply has/had multi cold solder joints which dealt me a fit in the normal on/off/on/off way. Repaired them all and in less than a week - no power. Bought another power supply [exchange] installed it and in about a week it did the black screen but I still had standby [red light] and on power-up the red light went out and the green LED on the logic board is ON for 5 sec. and OFF or 1 sec. and repeat.

I'm done with it, replaced with a Sony Ultra 64".

My conclusion is that the faulty solder joints on the power supply caused unneeded stress on the other boards resulting in failure, and that is a shame.

I am kind of inclined to agree with Zalmaflash so I plan on burning in this TV for at least one week. So far the TV works great.

I'm not an expert by any stretch but I think that a temp controlled 6" fan would have extended the life dramatically. Lots of heat.

As a follow-up on my 8000, I disconnected the Y main (which also disconnects the X because of the harness) and the green light acts normally on the 1 second intervals. Therefore the problem is in whatever that harness feeds. I unplugged the X from the Y (on the Y board) board and still had the fault [relay click/blink led] so I removed both buffer bds from Y, plugged it back in and relay click / blink/ click / blink / etc.

So having repaired the power supply - now the Y main is faulty and on inspection - absolutely nothing is out of normal. None of the transistors connected to heat sinks are shorted between legs or to ground, none of the caps are shorted, and I'm leary about buying a used one. I would much rather FIX this one.

Any ideas?
