    Panasonic TC-P50GT25 Power Indicator blinks 4 then 10 times

    My Panasonic gt25 apparently has crapped out on me. It turned off on it's own and now it won't turn back on. The red power indicator blinks 4 times, and if I hold down the power button for 10 secs, it blinks 10 times. I really don't want to spend a lot of money to get it repaired, so I'd like to try to fix it myself. Anyone have any ideas what part I need to replace?

    Shorted Vsus at SC2 on TNPA5081 SC board. Search TNPA5081 and read my repair post.
    Also download this guide, resistance test the buffers before replacing the SC board.

      I can't seem to find that board anywhere. It seems everyone's out of stock. Is there anywhere I can find it?

        Yeah, forgot to mention supply has dried up which is what happens when we just board swap

        All you can do is search , I think rev AF,AP,AW will work, yours is AP?

        May have to get yours rebuilt? A few are doing it on Ebay. If you've got a bit of electronic knowledge , not imposssible to do yourself but there's some small stuff to work with. More for the advanced.

        That would be the cheapest way, but not if you get it wrong.

        If I was in your country I could help out more but I'm yet to see anyone use my info to get one going or at least they're keeping quiet.

        shame really

        I have heard of people using these http://www.moduslinkptstvboards.com/

        Sorry mate, I know it sucks, maybe the board is obtainable from Panasonic too but some parts they might not sell to general public.

        TXNSC1MMUU = AP

        TXNSC11XEK50 = AW

        TXNSC1LPUU = AF

        This will make the eyes water, $420 less $250 for core http://www.encompassparts.com/item/8...1MMUU/PC_BOARD

        Try this, check rev with seller. supply and demand I guess.

          With that Ebay listing, I can't make out the white sticker although I thought it was looking like AP.
          If that is a VT25 board it should be rev AK or maybe AY, won't suit yours as they are 3D versions and different.

          Photo may not be the actual item, could ask, can't hurt although pricey, repair of yours would be a little cheaper I expect.

          Ignore the long list possible compatible TVs, they've probably just looked up TNPA5081 so it's wrong.

          It would be feasible to component swap parts from yours to a 42" or maybe 46" version. mainly capacitors and inductor coils. Would take a bit of research through the manuals to work out the components needing changing.

          This is AF, will work for AP. My set had AF, running with AP now no problems. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PANASONIC-TC...item3cda048fac

            I opened the TV up and took a look at the components on the boards. All of the components on the SC board appeared fine. I could only find a capacitor on the PSU board that looked blown. Is it possible that the problem is actually with the PSU?

              Sure it's possible, but unlikely.

              Unless you have a multimeter to check for shorts, visual inspection usually shows up very little on these.

              have you tried reading the troubleshooting guide or tried any of the fault finding steps? If you have a look at page 6 for SOS 4 , SC is the first suspect on the list, it's also first on the list for SOS10.

              I own this series and already had a SOS4 SC board fail, a relative has the same TV, also SOS4 SC fail + shorted buffer baords.

              So this is what you do, disconnect SC2 and see if SOS 4 changes to SOS7 or follow the guide.

              Edit: post a picture of the suspect CAP, the PSU and caps in these are pretty reliable.

                Something else to note, before installing a good Sc, you need to resistance check the SD & Su boards just in case they have shorted or else the Sc can blow again.

                  I'm going to borrow a friend's multimeter and troubleshoot sometime next week. My friend told me that you could easily tell if a capacitor was blown by looking to see if it expanded. There's one capacitor on the p board that definitely is blown i'd say. I'm really just hoping that it's the p board because those are plentiful and a little cheaper. If it was just the p board, I will definitely order one and put it in. If it's the sc, and the sd/su boards I'll probably sell it for parts and get one of the newer panasonic models. Anyway I'll hopefully know more next week.

                    The newer ones are just as bad if not worse for SC boards from what I've read 2011/12.

                    If you disconnect SC2 and SOS4 clears, that's a good indication the PSU is not to blame otherwise SOS4 would remain.

                    Picture of the cap would be handy, I think i actually have the GT25 PSU here from some parts I got from the US.

                    You may be lucky and have an exception with a bad PSU, I'm just a little skeptical.

                    The one I have is ETX2MM806AVH or 806AVH on a sticker. It's out of a brand new damaged in transit 50GT25 so I can compare what that cap looks like to this one.

                    The largest CAPs can look a little domed.

                      Ok, I disconnected SC2 and I then get 7 blinks.

                        Well that'll be SC board, that's how mine went when I fault found it although I had a meter which confirmed shorted out Vsus which never got up at startup but after Sc2 removal measured voltage as normal.

                        I also noted in the original condition the tiny onboard green LEDs on both the SC & SS boards never lit with SOS4 but once that shorted SC2 was disconnected, the SS board lit proving the PSU was supplying power to it until SOS7 kicked in.

                        https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22610

                        You could still get that meter to be 100% but I'm quite confident that will be the issue.

                        You could also resistance test the buffer boards, chances are they are ok, most of the similar posts I've read it's just the SC but not always.

                        The second one of these i worked on had bad buffers which i took for granted as being good and new Sc gave SOS7, then I reseated everything in case I made a mistake and POP. SC blew, and the exact same transistors had shorted out.

                          How do I make sure I'm ordering the correct SC board? Looking at my SC board, where the AW/AY should be, there's nothing there. So it just has TNPA5081 then a blank yellow rectangle, so I'm not sure how to know which one to order.

                              $107 repaired and return option. that's pretty good price really with 6 month wty

                              MODUSLINK

                              When these were more readily available you could get one for $60-70 so for another $40 someone is stripping and replacing the faulty components, testing it, shipping it back to you and a 6 month warranty.

                              I'd grab that meter, hopefully auto ranging and able to read more than 2 megohms, do the resistance tests on those buffers and then decide

                                  My P50GT25 also just died after wty ended. Not sure about initial blinking pattern, but settled into 10 blinks. Resistances at P11 Wh, P11 Brn, and P35 Wh was 1, 1.5, and 0.8 ohms (slide 8). Suggested Vda issue if < 1K ohm and a possible C board or panel issue. Next checked slide 12 resistances which suggested bad SS board. Finally slide 14 results suggested an SC board. Do have 15V on PS. Since conflicting results, plugged TV in and turned it on. Now 4 blink pattern. Not sure how to proceed. No obvious problems with caps on P board or elsewhere. Can someone help this confused person?

                                    Also checked slide 16 which ends by indicating problem might be C1 board or panel. Not sure how to go any further by isolating panel from C1 board as suggested. Boy, this is not straightforward for troubleshooting.

                                      One last clue from slide 51. When rechecking voltage, I see 15 volts briefly after first relay clicks on, but no voltage on pin 7 of P6 after 2nd relay clicks on. Also TV fails to come on during last test on page. Should voltage of 15V persist on pin 7 after second relay is activated?

                                        If you have a consistent 4 blink, disconnect connector SC2 and see if clears and goes SOS7.

                                        You can also backprobe the other voltage lines and see what the PSU is doing whilst it's starting up, you'll probably only have a few seconds before the SOS cuts in so if you can hook the meter up first you'll get an idea.

                                        Also check resistance across SC2 for short, disconnect the cable first.

                                        Shorted Vsus, P15V at P11 does not surprise me, with everything hooked up this just tells you have a short, not where.

                                        The short at P35 Vda does surprise me. How exactly did you test the P35?

                                        Was one probe at pin 1 and the other grounded or was it pin 1 and one of the other pins at P35?

                                        P35 Pins
                                        1 = Vda (white)
                                        2 = Vda (brown)
                                        3 = N/C (no connection)(brown)
                                        4 = Gnd(brown)

                                        Focus on the SC, most common failure and produces SOS 10 & 4. Recheck your shorted Vda result.

                                        If you find the SC is bad, go to slide 43 and write down the resistance results for the SD/SU boards.
