    Samsung Plasma HP-S5073 Sparkle

I've got a bit of an issue with some random lit pixels across the panel on this 50" plasma. Here's some pics:

I was hoping the random lit pixels across the screen were merely a power supply voltage issue. I was even delighted when I found all voltages under spec. I adjusted all to spec, but the problem still exists.

I am somewhat tentative about adjusting the timings on the set unless I know it is actually a timing issue. I do have a digital oscilloscope. It's of the 60Mhz variety, so quite a bit under what these boards operate at. I've read where people simply adjust the timings until the best picture is had. I would probably be less tentative if it weren't for that one band of pixels across the bottom of the screen. Makes me think there is something else going on here.

I haven't changed anything yet. So far, I've only adjusted all the power supply voltages to within 0.1v of panel specs.

Does this seem like an issue on the buffer boards or more of a processing issue?

I would say given the fact there's a white line across the bottom of the screen it might be more of a control board issue than anything else. You could try disconnecting the lower buffer board leaving the upper buffer board connected still and see if the sparkle disappears on the top side of the screen of course a bottom side going to be completely black that would be a good start. if the sparkles disappear replace lower buffer board.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Can you post a close picture of the control board? At the very least, a malfunction in the main board can be eliminated.

I took a pic of the Y-Main, I presume that's what you meant by control board? Here it is:

As for disconnecting the lower buffer, I pulled the ribbons off, but to remove the board itself, I didn't want to damage the white connector between the lower and upper buffer boards, is it possible to remove the lower without also removing the upper? I'm not familiar with this connector and do not want to damage it...

The white connector between lower and upper buffer boards, that's for daisy chaining the two correct? If so, would I be better off leaving the lower buffer connected to the main and the other buffer, but simply disconnecting the ribbons?

The control board is the one buried right under the main board.

I didn't get the whole board in the picture, but more of the "business" end of it. If more is needed, I can zoom out a bit and get the whole board

Agreed. My previous suspicion of a buffer board is wrong. Those dots between the white lines are a dead give away . Looks like a control or mainboard issue. Try heating the main processor up on the control board.

I'll try and get an opportunity to hook the main board up enough to power the TV, then with it main board tilted out, I'll try heating that processor and see if there is any change in display. Unless there is something that you guys see on this board that suggests otherwise. (I do also have a 60Mhz digital oscilloscope, I realize it's well under the 200Mhz that would be ideal for TV work, but it should be enough to get a picture)

Do you see the 2 x 2, 4 pin connector block labelled CN2008/2009? Middle left of board.
Place a jumper across pins 3-4 (a jumper from a HDD option block works, as does bent wire.)
Then unplug the rainbow coloured LVDS connector at the top of the board.

When the TV is plugged in test patterns should appear, are these distorted or not?

I think I went wrong somewhere. I did as you said, I installed a jumper across pins 3 and 4 of CN2009, and I unplugged the rainbow connector at the top of the board. I installed all the other cables to the Main board, and plugged it in. The fan turned on on the main board, the blue light on the front of the tv turned on, but it would not power on.

In that pic, the one connector at the top is the only one disconnected. Not sure if that's what is preventing the power supply from coming up, or if it's the jumper.
