Yeah, my plan had been to restore it to normal to make sure it was still functional before moving on to any new configuration. Just haven't had the chance

Hm. Well, I put it back to original config, and it still doesn't work. No power supply click or anything. I'm not sure why considering all changes were made with power unplugged, and ESD strap on. Should be functional....

Ok, well scratch that. I was able to turn on the TV in its original configuration using the remote. I don't know why the power button on the side of the TV wouldn't turn it on after being plugged in, but it does power up, it does exhibit the same original discrepancy. I don't have the time right now to pull it all back down and install the jumper, but I'll try and get around to that later... <whew>

Ok, I got back in there and setup the TV with pins 3 and 4 jumpered, and the rainbow connector removed. I used the remote and the set powered up. I got a full white screen with no apparent defects.

Was hoping it would do test patterns. Try pins 1-2 instead.

You beat me to posting! I was doing some reading, and I found this site... https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...86e6f0a851.pdf. Page 6 has info. Says remove the SSB, and jumper pins 1 and 2. Removing the rainbow connector effectively removes the SSB from the circuit, without having to go through the hassle of overriding the power supply to turn on, but it too displays only a white screen. I'll tinker more when I get home, but I wonder if the button on the logic board would allow test pattern scrolling...

Hmm. Well, having pins 1 and 2 jumped also result in a white display. Pushing the button on the logic board either momentarily or for up to 10 seconds does nothing for what's being displayed.

Has to be some way to get the other patterns to display...

Ok, well, I went and removed the main(SSB) board all together, and jumped pins 3&4 of CN2009. I also jumped PS On and Rtn on the Power supply. Plugged it in and got a solid white screen. Turned it off and switched to 1&2 of CN2009. Same result, solid white screen. I'm thinking the test patterns are not avail on this module. Either that, or it requires a sequence to begin.

So, because it would *seem* that the defect goes away with the test pattern, that would suggest that the problem exists on the main board?(SSB). If that's the case, I'm all for component changes whenever possible as opposed to complete board changes. I wonder how this can be narrowed down to where the signal is getting goofy.

No, I actually purchased it in its current state, was hoping to fix it up to replace our CRT

Since the main board is the only component out of the circuit while in test, and the normal defect includes colors other than white in the bar across the bottom that are not visible when in test mode, I presume there is something amiss on the main board.

Does anyone have information on how this can be narrowed down on the main board to the suspect part?

The defect exists regardless of source selected. I went ahead and did a plain white screen input from my computer, this is the result....(lower LH corner for detail)

I instantly think main looking at that. Especially as the White Screen showed no issue with the panel

could it still be the control board even if the discrepancy is gone while set to test mode? ...well suppose it could be... Which tends to be more prone to failure?

Main boards fail a lot more. It is less likely to be a control board on full white pattern but I do not know if that fully tests onboard RAM.
