    panasonic dmr-ez45vebs DVD Recorder

I have a panasonic dmr-ez45vebs DVD/VHS recorder. Although the VHS tape player works ok, the DVD player/recorder displays a "NoRead" error when I load a DVD into the tray.

The tray loader works ok taking DVD's into the recorder and ejecting when required. Once the DVD has been taken into the player, I can hear whirring noises as the player attempts to read the DVD. This persists for a few seconds before displaying the error message.

Can anyone advise me what's causing this? The recorder is around 8 years old and this problem has occurred before and was fixed by the local Panasonic dealership - but tbh I don't want to have to pay out again for the same repair on a machine of this age - they said they'd replaced the DVD drive previously.

just sounds like a bad/dead/dying laser

if the laser is removable and you can source a laser it should be fixable

Thanks for your response. How do I check this? Is it a simple operation to remove a faulty laser and where could I get a replacement?
