Panasonic 42 TV - tc-p42s30

I got an offer on this TV for 50 bucks. It comes on for alittle while and shuts off. Then he has to have it unplugged for awhile and then comes back on. I did not know if it was worth looking at. I have never repaired a TV so thought it would be fun project.

What do you all think should i buy it ?

That's a tough one. Shuts off after how long? secs, minutes, hour?

See if you can find out if the front led is blinking on shutdown and how manys blinks. it will be a seriies of blinks with a pause in between.

there could also be no blinks.

SJ have no SN boards, so these may have an issue with them.

Have a look at this ebay listing and read the sellers comments regarding the symptoms and the quality of this panasonic. AFAIK he's a professional TV repairer and has access to genuine Panasonic parts.

Unless you can do component level fault finding and work with SMD, this maybe a tough project.

There seems to be a lot of issues with later Panasonics, maybe because they've gone SMD and removed a lot of the heatsinks, I don't know?

hmmmmm I guess i will stay away. I thought it might be a nice one to work on. I asked him on the led blinks earlier and he said he does not know. He just asked if i wanted it or not.

Nice component level repair at best if you can handle it but if he's avoiding giving an answer he probably already knows it won't be an easy or cheap fix.

No boards anywhere unless you want to cough up $200 or more and to get a TV even a panasonic repairer reckons is poor reliability.

Good for the experienced trouble shooter who likes a challenge and prepared to lose $ on it if it goes all bad.

First thing i do is look up the model on SJ and if you see a particular board out of stock, keep searching that board and when you find none, good chance the main failure point is that board.

Sorry to ruin the party, but you know at least what you may be taking on.
