You can buy the parts from several places. For the USA, the following come to mind: eBay, ModusLinkPTV, ShopJimmy, Payless Components... You can probably also buy the part new direct from Sears Parts - LG is one of the few vendors that will sell parts to the general public, however they can be eye-wateringly expensive!

(And Googling for the part # can work too.)

It's more than probable that the fault is related to solder joints under the processor cracking. This failure being identical to the faults with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles suffering various "lights of death". These faults can be temperature sensitive and so could explain why it gets better as it warms up. This fault is rarely repairable on a permanent basis, unfortunately. There are some temporary fixes available, but they rarely last. Replacing the part is the only guaranteed way to fix the problem.

        As original poster says:
So I just removed the LVDS cable between the logic board and the input board. I then jumped pin 1 and 2 on the logic board "AUTOGEN" and powered it up. The screen ran through it's sequence of test patterns and color charts/greyscale sweeps.
The LVDS cable is the silver flat flex cable which has the latching connector. To remove the connector, gently pull back on it.

I have an LG 50PS3000 which is about to be assembled. It's roughly the same as your set and this procedure worked on mine too.

          Hello from a new memeber.

I have an 8 year old 50" LG Plasma PC50. The problem I have seems similar but not exactly the same. Perhaps the solution is the same as well, so here goes..

I attach screen with the problems showing. They are bright white sparkles that appear small and scattered at first then expand vertically to fill the screen then shrink and dis appear disappear. I have not been able to diagnose if they come when unit heats up after hours of watching as they just appear, whenever they feel like it seems. I've tested on all video sources and the problem seems universal. I placed a 1000w voltage regulator on the TV to see if it is from power fluctuations but no dice. At times the problem simply disappears for long periods (days) and the pic is perfect, then comes back in small doses or full blown unviewable pictures. The audio is unaffected as you can see the color itself is fine.

As a backgrounder my local TV repair has recently replaced an IC and capacitor to solve a power problem (no power at all). That seemed to work out fine and two weeks later this new problem appears. The local guy has not been able to resolve this since. I dont want him touching it anymore for fear of further damaging 'one of the last Plasmas on the planet :-)'

Any ideas? I'm not electronics repair guy but more than capable of rooting around the back if need be. Thanks in advance....

As a quick add on. When you see the picture problem you might notice some yellow streaking as well. However, those are from the way the photo was taken. The actual live problem, shows only white sparkles..

What is the full model number of your TV?

                Its an LG 50PC1R.

It was originally purchased in Singapore in 2006-07 I took it second hand in 2008 and no other problems experienced. Thanks.

Since the model of your TV is different to the one in this post (it's a completely different generation of TV) I suggest you start a new thread and if possible, include pictures of the problem.

Hello Tom66 - Happy New Year!

I have not yet replaced the board to get rid of blue streaks on the black background; but at least it has not gotten worse.

However, I do have a new problem, while watching the TV through an HDMI input (cable box), it went to "no signal" screen saver mode and will now not accept input from any of the HDMI ports. When I switch inputs, it says "HDMI2 Connecting..." and then back to "no signal" - the same for all 4 HDMI ports. It recognizes that an outside device is trying to connect -e.g. turning on the blu ray DVD player - prompts the TV to ask if I want to change input to HDMI3. When I click yes, it says "HDMI3 connecting..." then "no signal".

I have uplugged the TV and left it that way overnight. Unplugged and replugged all the HDMI cables, but this is clearly a problem with all ports not being able to recieve a signal.

Is this related to the same card that eliminates the "blue streaks on black background" problem?

Is there another fix to "reset" the HDMI ports? (By the way, I connected through the composite RCA connectors, and that works as a temporary fix).

This could be the last straw that leads to a new TV, though I love this old plasma...

                      Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

                      Thanks and God bless you,
                      D. R.
