Just a quickie, if I am taking out a 25.20 crystal do I have anything to play with ie 27.00 or do they have to be exact match

It would be interesting to see the effects of the wrong value. Such effects include firmware corruption, EEPROM corruption, failure to work, unstable image, inability to tune into all except French TV, etc.

Cheers Tom, next time I get another vestel I will have a bash at putting different crystals in to see what happens, I only asked about the crystal because I have a 17pw22-2 main giving me jip and apparantly the crystal gives the same symptoms I have got but it is nt that..wil start a new thread in a minute for it

How are you testing this suspect xtal?
Got a portable short wave receiver handy?
Set it for SSB detection.
Tune it to the expected frequency, turn on the main device.
If the xtal is cranking you should be able to tune in the area and get a 'tone' out of the xtal. Touch the xtal house with a test probe and the signal strength should get stronger.
