Its the same result as the first test except with the ERC and GND test the numbers kept going up instead of down

Re: Samsung PN42C430 Plasma no picture please HELP

This thing is a nightmare, when I had the Y-Main connected the set would just click on not turn on, disconnect the Y-Main and it would power up and stay on, so I ordered a new Y-Main and Y-Buffer from shop jimmy, since I hear that the Y-Main and Y-Buffer take each other out, get both parts install them and still would not turn on, I then disconnected the X-Main and with both the shop jimmy parts installed it turns on and stays on, so I figured I had also a faulty X-Main, ordered the X-main from ebay and just put it in same issue, powers on with all other parts connected, but once I connect the X-Main it wont power on. I did some voltage measurements and with out the X-Main connected the TV stays on and the VS, VA and VSCAN voltages are way low, disconnect the ribbon from the controller board that goes to the Y-Main and the voltages come back to spec. WTF is going on? can you help me out im at a loss

Could be a control board fault -- or it could be that the panel is defective.

Well I don't know if you remember me, but if you read the thread you helped me allot and we did a controller board test with patterns we put the controller board in a test mode with jumpers and it tested good, unless it went bad now, can a faulty controller board take out a X-Main?

The controller board has software on it which controls each individual mosfet on the sustains. It's conceivable a fault in this software could damage the boards. In fact this has happened before, though usually it's a time thing. A little glitch or some such causing eventual failure. Samsung and Panasonic have had this issue, both released software updates to rectify it once discovered. Rare for it to cause instant failure unless something was really wrong.

This TV is on the latest firmware, I don't think its the panel since even with all the ribbons from the screen disconnected it still does the same thing. if it was the panel faulty it would stay on would it not? so you seem to think the controller board is faulty?

Can you try with all ribbons out, and buffer removed from y-main?

Just tried that, the same thing happens, it just makes clicks, but wont power on, I tried something else as well I tried leaving everything connected including the X-Main and just disconnect the power cable coming from the power supply to the control board, to my surprise it turns on and stays on, no picture and the voltages are way down on the VA, VS and Vscan, but it at least stays on with even the X-Main connected. if I plug the power back to the control board the only way it will stay on is with the X-Main disconnected, they both cant be connected at the same time or else it wont start, its ether one or the other. I checked the voltages on the pins from the power supply to the control board and the 2 5.3 volts pins are at spec, but the VS on and ps on are very low, I dunno if that's normal.

Does that give you any clues as to what is going on?

It sounds like you still have an X-main fault. I recommend removing it and checking each of the MOSFETs.

I guess it could be possible I got a bad board from ebay. I have a known good working power supply that's the same one that's in that TV and I tried it with same result, so Its for sure not the power supply. How do I test the mosfets? never did that before and would love to know how?

Does you version of X-main have a large heatsink (almost as big as the board itself) with 6 devices bolted to it, or is it a smaller heatsink with just 2 devices?

Its a big heatsink with 6 mosfets to it, I attached a picture.

I happen to recently have sold this board -- bummer -- could have tested it and compared it.
Anyhow, two transistors (3 leg devices) are IGBTs, the other two are FETs, you just need to test between each combination of pins (1-2, 2-3 and 1-3) both ways for shorts. Post your results along with the device name. The two lead devices (diodes) only need a test both ways, 1-2 and 2-1.

I'm still confused how to test them, so I have included 2 clear pictures so its easier for you to explain, I even uploaded a picture of my meter because I don't know where to set it at for testing these?

Your meter needs to be set to DIODE mode.

Number the pins in your head 1-3 for the three legged ones, and 1-2 for the two legged ones. Start from left, going to right as in your photo.

For the three legged ones: Place your meter's red probe on pin 1, black probe on pin 2. Record reading. Move to 2-3. Record reading. Move to 1-3. Record reading. Swap probes, black on pin 1, red on pin 2. Record reading. And repeat the previous tests so all combinations are handled.

For the two legged one: Place your meter's red probe on pin 1, black probe on pin 2. Record reading. Swap the probes around. Record reading.

Post the results, along with the lettering on the device, and the part designator (Q993, D238, etc.)

It looks like these are shorted

                                        Q4007 - RJH30E2
                                        Q4001 - RJH30E2

It is common problem with these boards. I have 3 of these boards with the same 2 on each shorted as well.

Another way to test this board to see if it is shorted is to take a meter on diode setting and put one lead on VS and the other on ground in the main power plug. If it beeps it is shorted.

yeah it beeps with the vs to ground test. So is that all that would be shorted on this board? do you think anything else is shorted on it as well and also is it possible that the controller board or any other board kill the x-main?

                                            - sound and backlight, but no picture
                                            - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                                            - it keeps rebooting
                                            - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                                            - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                                            - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

This forum has been in great help to me, but I stumbled upon a strange problem with a salvaged Samsung TV that I am banging my head to troubleshoot.

                                            Hi friends,

a friend of mine gave me this TV to fix, with common SAMSUNG TV issue - damaged panel. Turning on, sound is present, but no picture. So I went directly to standard process, connecting two pads together with a wire ( see in the picture ), and then removing flex cables. With right flex connected, there was half screen working, but still no picture ( disappearing colors and similar weird stuff ) + working sound. With left flex connected, TV is restarting + working sound. I supposed, left side is damaged, so I then blocked all 8 CLK pins ( going from 0R resistors on the second...

Samsung plasma tv PN51F5300BF - jerky staticky picture on whole screen until warm up
                                            by Ollerenshaw
About 50% of time, on switching tv on, there is a jerky staticky picture over whole screen. After some seconds (variable, 5 to 20 seconds) picture suddenly becomes normal.
                                            Nothing appears abnormal inside.
I'm not a service technician. Main questions: Any ideas as to problem? Worth taking to repair technician? My skills would allow replacing a board but nothing more complicated.
                                            Photos and video attached.
                                            Thanks for any ideas....
