As the tittle says, Thanks tom!!
Long story short I had a second gen BenQ 46W1 plasma (turns out its re-branded BenQ and actually a gateway) It croaked 4+ years ago. Like most people in the world, why fix it?? We replaced it with a newer LCD model. It sat for a long time in the basement. One boring Sunday afternoon i began to take it apart and learn. SYMPTOM:It had screen glow and audio just no picture or access to menu etc.....

I replaced the logic board (guessing at the problem) with no luck. Didn't want to spend too much on an outdated model and was ready to throw in the towel. Tom made several suggestions and what i could check next etc.....sure enough....using an oscilloscope I couldn't get any waveform from the Y-Sustain. After removing the board from the tv I spotted some burnt components. WHY??? not sure!! I ordered a used Y-sustain from a reputable company and what do ya know?? we are back in business!!
I had read a few posts suggesting that "screen glow" could indicate that your Y-sustain is ok?? Well.....this was NOT the case in my situation. Screen glow existed with bad Y. Perhaps it was a partially working Y?? none the less. the Y was the issue
I should mention that I did read several warning signs suggesting that you SHOULD replace the buffers when replacing the Y-sustain. My model has 2 buffers on the Y. i could track down 1 of the 2 but had little luck finding the second one so I gambled!! the tv has been working non stop for about a week now.
Tom I salute you
You spend countless hours on these forums offering help to others and some of us appreciate it!! you don't have to but you choose to
anyways....I did make a short youtube video regarding my problem and what I did to fix it. Some of it may seem "elementary basic" to most on these boards but we all had to start somewhere.
cheers
