    PN50B560T5FXZA Samsung Plasma TV Trouble

    Hi,

Today a horizontal one pixel high black line appeared through the Samsung Plasma TV. My son just replaced the power supply and the tv finally worked but then this line appeared. I called Samsung and they were no help whatsoever; they suggested that I set up a service call with them. Honestly, we just don't have the money at this point in time for an expensive service call and repair. My son thinks it may be a bad y-buffer connector board. He tried unplugging and reconnecting those tabs on the board, but the line remained. I have read a few things on this site that address the problem, could be bad ribbon connections, could be a bad y-buffer board, could be the screen, etc. My question is, I have found the replacement y-buffer connector on Ebay for $35.00. Should I spend the $35.00 for the board, or is there something else we can do to pin point the actual problem? I would hate to spend the money for the board only to have it disappoint us and not fix the problem. If anyone has a word of advice and some experience with this black line problem, I sure would appreciate your sharing it with me. Also, does anyone have an explanation as to why the people I spoke with at Samsung didn't even know what a y-buffer connector is and had no knowledge of the "black line(s) problem? Just curious if they purposely try to PYO or if they're really that ignorant of their own product.

Did you see my previous post?

If it's from top to bottom, it's the plasma panel itself (more specifically, the driver ICs, which are bonded straight to the panel.) It cannot economically be repaired, because the ICs are not replaceable. Mostly because it costs less to do it that way.

If it is from left to right, it is most likely a Y-buffer problem.
Note, if you plug in the Va power connector while the set is turned on (for example after forgetting to plug it in), you can fry the driver ICs, causing this problem.

Regarding Samsung, you are talking to CS guys. They read off a script. If you got hold of their technician's line, they'd know what a Y-buffer is. But that service is only for technicians.
Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

I just did and didn't realize my first post actually posted, so I posted my problem a 2nd time. Sorry about that! You've been really helpful Tom and I so much appreciate your answer to me. I will pass all this good info onto my son. Have a great new year!

To the best of my knowledge, no manufacturer will provide technical information to consumers. Too much of a legal liability. They must discourage consumers from opening their electronics, due to the dangerous voltages, sharp edges, etc. found inside.
