Vizio 42" LED Model XVT3D424SV, possible purchase $200

Someone here locally is selling a Vizio 42" LED Model XVT3D424SV, he said it has sound and the backlight is lit, but no picture, he is asking $ 200 I'm thinking about buying this tv but hoping it won't take a lot of money to fix, any advise on this is appreciated. He said he bought it new and it has never been opened to attempt servicing it. I have not looked at it yet.
$200 seems to be too much but it's not that old, he said he has the box, remote, stand and owners manual. I think $100 would be more like it.

Even 100 USD is too much, new and working LED TV is only about 10-20% more than LCD TV here.

VIZIO XVT3D424SV 42-Inch Full HD 3D Edge Lit Razor LED with Smart Dimming LCD HDTV 480 Hz SPS with VIZIO Internet Apps.

Used Price on Amazon is $ 620 and $671 refurbished. I myself could care less about 3D but 480 hz refresh rate? I think my Vizio E420VO I bought new a few years ago has only 60 hz refresh rate.

You can pay whatever you want but you will find after spending the time and money to fix it you will realize it's too much risk to pay that much. Especially if it turns out to be a main board issue as is common with Vizio which may cost you around $100 if you can find it..

Amazon prices are great to show buyers but look on craigslist for realistic prices..

Trust me, I have a 100 Hz TV at home (Samsung LCD, only about 2 years old, one I repaired.)

I turned the feature off after a few minutes, makes everything look fake. 480 Hz is just 120 Hz motion interpolation with three dark frame insertions per real frame (and is only 240 Hz at 2D.) The dark frames are supposed to make the panel look faster to update, but they are more of an illusion than a solution and can cause juddering on certain panning scenes.

Kevin's advise is very valid. Vizio parts like main boards are pricey.

At the local home show about 3 years ago, I saw Batman on Blu Ray at the Sony booth. The Sony TV was some 60 inch "top of the line" 120Hz/240Hz and the movie looked like a reality TV show instead of a film movie.

A few months later I bought a plasma.

$200 sound reasonable to me if the buyer has all accessories, and KEPT this LED TV well maintain, plus this is a new model TV. the problem sound like the T-CON board has fail, since there is sound and the back lights are working.
You can buy a T-CON board for $55.00 on eBay. I will go for it offering $150 to $200 for the set

I tried to get this guy to go down to $125 but he won't budge, maybe I will try $150, he says the screen is good, has the original box, remote and owners manual.

Its a fairly new model LED/LCD 3D HDTV, he probably paid $700 or more for it and he know it can be easily fix. $200 is reasonable, I will try him for $150 and then $175.

Okay, I offered him the $150 and he said okay, I just have to make arrangements to get it.... you say the T-Con board is most likely the problem, have you seen this problem yourself?

Yes, The T-CON board is where I will begin my troubleshooting.
