    LG IPM yppd-j015, yppd-j016

I've got a question about these LG IPMs. I see a lot for sale with the backs filled with a black resin.
Does anyone know what that's all about? Is it a revision or an attempt by sellers to pass these off as new?

The other thing is normally there is a screw which earths the IPM to the heatsink.
If I get one filled in the back and there is no screw or screw hole, how critical is it for that screw earthing the module?
Can it be safely installed without it?

I have seen too many remans. I have received them with solder on the pins! and if they are solid they most likely have been remand.

I send the boards out now since I can get them re-chipped for the same price as the chips and there are some good people out there doing these. Plus you get a warranty.

You need to watch some need to be used in pairs if the numbers change at all. You can`t mix and match these even if the pin out is the same.

SO who does the rechip? Which parts are redone? I wonder if they rebody these. That is pull the board out and place it in a new shell with clean legs.

I'm working on another mates disaster and he already replaced some of the modules but somehow blew them. The ones he had were filled so I heated it up and peeled it out. What I saw on some of the pins solder wise looked sus.

It would be great if you could just replaced those parts with conventional SMD FETs.

Mounting and Handling Guidelines for TO220 TO220F TO247 Cases / Packages

The TO220, TO220F and TO247 are the popular packages for power devices because of their versatility and ability to dissipate moderate amounts of heat. This application note describes the basic guidelines for handling power MOSFETs in TO220, TO220 and TO247 packages shown in Figure 1. Please note that only mechanical and soldering guidelines are covered here. Additional precautions are required for isolating high voltage rated devices to meet safety regulations.

PS5 - long screw damage, via to ground layer short?
        by Prott
        Hello dear Badcappers,
I came across a PS5 that was longscrewed. The screw went through the HDMI IC (which I replaced + repaired the traces it damaged), however the screw also bend the board and slightly cracked it on the other side. It still seems like it could be fixable though as the area might not have lots of traces going through it (fingers crossed).

Can somebody, please, measure their board and tell me if my assumption of an inner short between the via and ground layer is correct? These 3 pads have almost no resistance. I would like to make sure those are not some data...

Screw-In Barrel Adapter for LED light array gets really hot?
        by zman78
        Hi All,

I have an LED Light array that had a built-in AC-DC 24v 45 watt power supply. The power supply failed so I desoldered the LED Light array power input wires from the power supply and then screwed it into barrel connector jack (ends still tinned with the original solder).

This is the barrel connect or jack https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q6YMM6F/

Then I bought an external 24Volt/3Amp power brick (with same size barrel connector output) and plugged it in.

Everything works fine, except that the screw-in barrel connector gets...

        Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
