Samsung LE32R87BD in standby, red led, can it be switched on without the remote?

Samsung LE32R87BD in standby, red led, can it be switched on without the remote?

I pick this lcd up today from the dump. I was dumping some rubbish and this lcd was sitting there. In the van and in the garage with the back off in know time.

Picked up a 21in Digix lcd as well. The digix works fine, the only thing i can think why it was binned is that its not DV3 and i dont have the remote. No problem for me because i use a freeview stb.
Come in well handy as i have not had a tv in the lounge for about 2 weeks, seems like months.

Anyway the Sammy, when powered on the red led lights up, but when i press the power button i get nothing.

    Reading the manual from here

    https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...ae7d07d669.pdf

    1. Press the POWeR button on the remote control.
The screen is turned off and a red standby indicator appears on the front of your set.
    2. To switch your set back on, simply press the POWeR , numeric buttons (0~9), TV/DTV button or
    channel up/down ( / ) button again.

Is it saying the to switch on from standby, the remote power button must be pressed?

Cannot see any blown caps on the PSB, i can get some picks up if i am going in deep on this one.
My luck cannot be that good, where i just need the remote to power on from stand by...................can it.

    Thanks for reading.

These TVs should turn on with the power button. However, an issue I have noticed with some Samsungs is that the connector for the remote control and buttons can come loose.

Check for stable standby and main output voltages.

How's the 61" going? Still burning resistors?

Yes Tom, it,s still popping them. Have not gone down the link out route yet.
I have been cleansing my self of tv to see how long i can last.
Going a little stir crazy i think, which is not good just from not having tv.

      Still back to business.
I have checked that i have mains voltage at the first fuse on the PSB.
How do i check for "stable standby voltages?

As you know, i am ok if prodded in the right direction.

Do you think i should get some pics up?

Yeah, post some pictures, especially around the connectors on the PSU going to the main board. If there are any labels next to the pins, write them down.

By the way, I have found most Samsung remotes compatible with each other. Even Samsung CRT RPTV remotes work with Samsung LCDs.

Sorry i did not get the pics up yesterday, looking after the little one and had know time.
There are two sockets on the PSB one the top right. The top one has a plug in it going to the left of the panel. the one below does not have anything connected to it.
The top one, from the top going down the pins are
            PWM
            AdM
            NC
            5 x Grd pins
            5 x 24v pins

            The one below is
            Grd
            PWM
            BL
            ADM
            5 X Grd
            5 X 24v

The last two pics are of the same board, just one might be clearer than the other. I dont have great light in the garage, so might have to set something up if they are not good.

            Cheers

What about the socket from PSU to main?

                  Check SB and 5.4V.

With the multi plug disconnected from the psu board and one lead to gnd i get.
SB =5.25v and nothing on the 5.4v pins.

                      And if connected?

I am not sure if SB is to turn the TV on or off, or if it is the standby power. Are the 12V or 13V rails working? Any other voltages?

                        plug connected

                        pin
                        3, 5.25v
                        7, .354v

                        21, .679v
                        22, .679v

If i put my ear near the psu and power up i can hear a high pitch wine, if i press the power button the wine changes tone. Its a very low sound.

Check PS voltage before & after pressing power button.

Okay take the PSU out of the board, and check all the diodes on the secondary. If you need help post pictures of the underside.

                              PS = 3.44v, but cycles every 3 seconds from .020v to 3.44v.
Makes no difference if the power button is pressed or not.

Not sure if it will help, but here's the service manual

                                http://tgohome.com/ServiceManuals/?d...&Search=Submit

Assuming pin 1 is labelled as pin 3 in the main board schematic (here) that suggests the main board uses this to control the power on/off. As there are no other pins.

This suggests the main board is trying to turn the TV on, but the power supply is not responding - possible a power supply issue then.

Check all the diodes as I indicated.

                                    Here are your secondary diodes.

                                    To test:
                                    - Remove and disconnect board from everything.
                                    - Mentally number pins 1 thru 3. Order isn't crucial but be consistent.
                                    - Set your multimeter to DIODE test mode. It looks a bit like this: ->|-
                                    - For each device:
                                    - Place red probe on pin 1, black on pin 2.
                                    - Place red probe on pin 2, black on pin 3.
                                    - Place red probe on pin 3, black on pin 1.
                                    - Repeat these measurements with red and black reversed.
                                    - Report back with readings with the diode reference, e.g. DM805, in the post. If possible, note the part# written on the diode.

                                        Diodes are all okay.

Next step - unplug inverters and main board. Use 1kohm resistor to pull PS high or low. Do rails 13V, etc come up?
