Hitachi plasma dark picture with figures highlighted in red

    Hitachi 42PD4200

This sets has main board components supplied by LG.

I Can't get to the bottom of this one and its driving me nuts.

First Z-sus blew so I changed IPM.
Picture was ok but its ipm was running so hot it would have burnt out had I left it on for more than 5 minutes.

Second - Found 15v rail from y-sus was decreasing from switch on down to 9v.
This corresponded with the Z-sus ipm increase in temperature.

I changed the Y-sus board , got a good 15v rail and good picture.
    Result-Yes .

It didn't last though. When I switched on again theres picture and sound but picture is very dark and figures are highlighted in red.

I looked up trouble shooting guide for inspiration and it says to check Y drive buffers. Theres 2 testpoints near to the bottom drv outlet. Can'tmake out in guide wether these are for a diode check. Testing is infinite both ways anyway.

    Could it be the buffers?

Oh and the 15 v rail is now down to 14V.

I would adjust -Vy and Vscn to their labelled voltages on the panel sticker.

I can pick up a similar 42" at my local tip for £30 in working order (it's only an SD plasma), so I wouldn't recommend spending too much on it.

I'm a bit unsure about doing this as I've only ever adjusted Va & Vs voltages.

Are these adjusted using digital multimeter or do I have to use a scope?

These are on the Y-sus board -right.

There are resitors marked VSCW, -VY and V setup. Does it matter which side of resitors probe goes?

You can use a DMM. Post a picture of your Y-sustain board and I will highlight where to test.

You will usually need to probe -across- the resistor. The polarity is not important, only the magnitude of the voltage.

I can here, but only on certain days and it costs me more in most cases than buying directly from people. I saw someone on Gumtree recently listing a 50" standard definition (i.e. 853x480) plasma for £60.

I got my nice (faulty, 4 bad caps, easy fix) 42" LG LCD TV from there, along with a few other small things, but now I don't really bother there.

          Heres photo of y-sus.

I can see blue potentiometers top right and test resistors just below.

          The label is marked

          Va;65V/Vs190V

Do you have a picture looking directly down on the Ysus - it's difficult to see any labels.

Cameras useless for close ups I'm afraid.

Okay so those three yellow transformers are your sub supplies, nearby there should be some test points. Test as indicated and adjust the voltage to match panel sticker.

Hitachi 55HDS69 55" Plasma TV - No Picture But Sound
                  by KYBOSH
Picked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.

When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on...

I love working on plasma TVs.
Its been a while but I was lucky enough to find 2 this week.

The TV powers on and stays on but no picture. Havent checked for sound yet.
No bulging caps although the insides are pretty dusty and the boards are discolored from many years of high heat.
                  Will start troubleshooting tonight.

Hitachi 55HDX99 Plasma Powers on but no picture
                  by canadaboy25
Hey guys, I recently acquired a Hitachi 55HDX99 plasma TV that doesn't work. The TV powers on and eventually goes into standby which is indicated by the blue power led changing to orange. If I plug a VCR into it to keep it awake, I can feed an audio source in and it will play the sound no problem. The volume controls on the TV work as well so it is obviously just a display problem.

I found the Hitachi service manual online which is also hosted on tom66's manual archive. Compared to the Panasonic service manual I had for the last plasma I worked on, this one is underwhelming to say...

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
                  by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                  Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                  First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

SAMSUNG UN55KS9000F picture fades then distorts into vertical lines after 20 seconds
                  by JJAAMM
This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                  Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...
