    Re: Tcl pdp42u3h

Made a big mistake just blew 2x450v 680uF caps on the sustain board.
lucky for me there was a rail for the tv stand to mount to in the way.
them caps are loud when they go off.

Not sure why this happened but I was probing the right connections I'm sure.

maybe it was because my multimeter was in the off position.

Oh well checked over everything else around that area seems fine so now I will be buying some expensive caps.

might recap that power board to rule it out all together.

Just realized too LG make half of this tv.

I can't figure out how you could "blow" some caps? Did you short them out? That would make a bang, it wouldn't be good for the caps, but they would probably survive to work another day. However the fuse is almost certainly blown and the bridge rectifier and PFC diode are probably not too happy.

I was probing the Va just plugged into the ground and BANG.
Multimeter was in off position at the time.

the protector covers on the caps have blew off.

        No fuse blew.

The caps may still be okay, but does the set still power up... the PSU may be damaged... or perhaps you shorted Vs to Va (very, very bad... plasma panel is probably destroyed due to horizontal driver failure.) Vs is ~200V, Va is ~60V.

Plasma still powers up but the picture is crappy and looks all chrome.
I don't see any thing else damaged apart from them caps. it was a loud bang.
So I reckon they are a problem. Ill get salvage some more out of something.

Ok had another look when I had free time.

It was a fuse now back to square one the picture isn't very sharp.

the background picture looks a bit pix-lated.

I tested the big caps on the board that plugs into the inverter boards.

I'm unsure what the name of that board is.

I will explain it better how the picture looks.

everyone on tv suffers from a skin condition jaundice. thats how it looks lol.

It could be a digital board problem, but it is hard to tell. Does the problem appear on all inputs? Does it affect OSD, menus, etc?

Good questions. All OSD menus look normal.
I have a set top box plugged in on the av inputs and the OSD menu looks normal on that too.

I could try vga input off the laptop watching a movie.

So the set top box menus look normal? That is odd, are you sure problem isn't with the STB?

hey just checking it now and have my desktop up on the tv and the desktop looks all white. it don't stand out like it does as I'm looking at it on a laptop lcd.

the picture is dark looking and its like the tv is color blind.

Set top box works fine. I have tested several.

                          Pic of fault? Maybe Z-sustain.

How can I test the Z sustain?

I replaced a fuse on that board to get it working to where it was.

also on that z sustain was 2 fuses.

Also the IPM is heating up as it should, But I dunno if that means anything or not to you?

Also the pot on the z-sustain does nothing to the picture when you turn it.

                              Don't just turn pots randomly...

If you show a detailed picture of the fault (like with a test pattern) I will make a guess, but I cannot be certain.

You can connect your PC/Laptop up to the TV and draw some horizontal and vertical lines, maybe use a grid pattern.

Could be a cold solder joint, or bad caps.

Flashing stop when you hit the Y-sustain IPM heat sink with a screw driver..

Would that be the cause of the flickering?

                                            by Zippo978
                                            Good morning everyone

I have this Telefunken te43550b40q2k TV that has intermittent backlighting, sometimes it turns on and then does not turn back on.

I tested the LED bars and all three work, not even one burned LED, then I tried to put only two bars short-circuiting the end of the connection cable and it does not give any problem the LEDs stay on without problems, I also tried short-circuiting the central connector and the initial one, always no problem, but as soon as I put the third bar, no matter the position the problems start again.

                                            Thanks in advance...

Intermittent display on Sherwood Newcastle R-965 Receiver

                                            Hi all,

I'm working on a Sherwood R-965 at the moment. It came in with relays clicking constantly and also going into protect mode.
I've re-soldered a lot of dry joints and replaced quite a few capacitors and now it works, but I still have one problem I haven't solved and would like some opinions.
The vacuum display is quite intermittent. Sometimes it won't turn on, sometimes it will turn on but the characters, numbers and letters are frozen on, regardless of which buttons are pushed. And sometimes it works flawlessly. If the display doesn't turn on initially, restarting...

Hope someone can give me some suggestions on this because i'm at my wits end with it...

I have an Envy 13-BA1565na here with an Intel Core i7 i7-1165G7 CPU (board is a LA-J475P Rev 1.0) which has an intermittent power button issue. The power button is integrated into the keyboard, and I have ruled out the keyboard, BIOS and battery as being the issue.

Basically, on mains power, the power button works fairly well. The first time you come to it after leving it sitting (either on charge or not on charge), it might take 2 or 3 presses of the button, but then the laptop boots...

Bose Wave I AWRCC1 - intermittent to no sound output - loud popping & crackle sounds

                                            Dear reader

I have been asked to check out a faulty Bose Wave system belonging to a relative. The faulty unit produces loud intermittent pops and crackles. Sometimes there is speaker audio output (FM/AM, CD etc.), most of the time there isn't. This behaviour degraded over time fairly quickly, to the current situation where no sound is put out at all. Gently messing and wiggling wires, connectors or heatsink has no effect in force-replicating the problem. I have little experience in audio repair when it comes to (main)board electronic component faults. Bose repair WAS about 140$ (most...
