    LG 42PX11 no picture

Been offered a LG RZ-42PX11 42" plasma for £50 complete with remote, no picture, just a black screen which "fades" to grey after about a minute

Does this sound like a panel problem?

Don't want to put any more money out on TVs at the moment really, but this one seems too good to miss if it's repairable.

    Cheers

    Jim

Huge NO. At least 7 years old (released Nov 2004) and 852x480 resolution.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

      Ah! ok.

Should have checked the specs, wasn't even aware such a low spec plasma had been made.

      Thanks for the heads up

I can purchase a new tier 1 name 40 to 42 inch 720p plasma/ 1080p LCD for about $400. With Boxing Day coming up, that might drop to $350 or so.

IMHO, the fair market value for a WORKING 7 year old plasma 852x480 should $100 or less.

I bought a 480p 42" plasma for a very good price - £2.19 - and was able to sell it on for £120. Had three bad caps, big 560u/250V ones on the Vs, rare failures...

Not bad for 30 mins work

It averages out though when you get a bu**er of a job and it takes days to sort.

            Good work though

Cost £20 to get the components for the TV from the US, though... but still was nice to fix it.

Well, I was off a bit. One boxing day ad has a 43 inch Samsung Plasma 720p for $299 CDN (taxes not included). Limited quantities, but it gives you an idea what the used market should be priced at.

Ugh. Don't even get me started on low end Samsung plasmas... There's a reason they are $299.
