    cap replacements

Hello, A little background first. I was in the refrigeration service field for almost 30 years and the last 10 was programing energy management systems. I have a working knowledge of capacitors but it is limited to high voltage applications.

I have a Samsung LCD TV that over time began to not start instantly and is getting to the point to where it won't turn on at all. So I popped the back off and sure enough 4 CapXon capacitors, swollen, domed not leaking yet showing signs of discoloring due to heat. So I pulled them of the Power Supply board.

My question is this: I have 4 caps 2 are 820uf 1 1000uf and 1 330uf all 25v 105 degree C. In high voltage applications you can exceed the uf as long as you maintain the correct voltage. Can I replace all 4 with 1000uf 25 volt caps? or do I need to follow the same uf rating they had with each cap?

Use the same voltage and capacity. Going to a higher capacity sometimes produces strange results.

These are low ESR caps, general purpose caps won't work. I suggest using Panasonic FR or FM series for replacements; with USPS first class mail shipping those four will cost about $6.00. It is strongly suggested you replace ALL Capxon caps; they have the distinction of routinely failing in these power supplies.

Not being an electronics person I'm not sure what to ask for, I know I need part numbers.
the markings on these CapXon caps are:

        GL 105 Deg C
        C708 vent
        25v 820uf

        GL 105 Deg C
        C706 vent
        25v 330uf

        GL 105 Deg C
        C702 vent
        25v 1000uf

I need 2 of the 820uf and 1 each of the other 2.
Is there a cross reference chart I can get Panasonic part numbers from?
I called the Panasonic rep in Oregon and the guy didn't know what he could do without part numbers.
He did say they didn't have a store just a warehouse they deal in bulk it is Arrow Electronics in Beaverton. He wasn't very helpful .

Get Panasonic FM or FR series. FC series may be enough for the 330uF one.

Nichicon HM, HN series are also good enough for the 1000uF and 820uF. Not sure they're good enough for 330uF.

digikey.com , mouser.com are good stores if you're in us. farnell.com if you're in Europe.

TYVM, I found a very helpful friendly lady at mouser.com she walked me through her companies web site and showed me how to use the site and how the filters worked I was able to get all the FR series Panasonic caps, although 2 are on BO but i'm not in a hurry. Thank you for the help.

              From Digikey

              25v 820uf P12391-ND @ $.75

              25v 330uf P12386-ND @ $.51 or P12386-ND @ $.50 (different height / diameter)

              25v 1000uf P12379-ND @ $.85

Go with USPS first class mail shipping and you will have the parts in hand on Saturday for under $5.50.

Mouser is also good, but with their lowest cost shipping option you will pay more for shipping than the parts on small orders.
