    Hi,
It's been a Long time from my last post, but I will let you know that the optocoupler mod has worked to this day , so about 6 years. TV is still working.

Today I got one black horizontal line in the middle of the tv screen and also I have some red dots on black backgrounds sometimes.

I think this tv is going to the recycling plant now. Tried to fiddle with the ribbon cables but no help for the black line.

Happy to hear the optocoupler mod has helped others too.

Ok, I take the Backside of again and found this: PDP 42V80201
    //DC 5,0 V //Va 60V // Vs 185 V max Watt 250.

Hope this helps to identify the Control Panel !

    Nice, to hear from you!

    Doesn't quite work like that!

You would need to send me your Control-Board, I update it--and send back to you.....

Be too expensive to send my jig, my PC, the PSU for control-board and all the wiring/software to you to do it yourself!

    ---

Let me know the panel-number inside, and if you can get it--The Control-Board numbers, (small board under the metal chassis holding all the AV and Mainboard stuff) I have a spare control-board, maybe its the same type/version....

No--Not done by USB or anything like that.

The Control-Board has a socket that you plug the special jig into attached to the PC and directly re-new the firmware.
You dont even need the set to do the job, just the control-board, the jig, computer and the software and firmware files.

Altering the pots will only give a partial cure I found.

First at all the bridge works since two hours

I read my service manuall and found nothing of firmware update.
Than go to LG Homepage and found only the manuall to downloud, than I walk to the television and look if there is an usb connection, but there is none!
So I think there is no way to update the firmware, but I found in germany a page who is discriping how to take of any pixelsnow with working on the Pottis(
    Vsetup etc.)Here the Linkhttp://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-141-2177.html
My TV is the LG42PC1RV build in 2006.

    Again Thanks!

According to my data--its updateable, Its the Control-Board firmware that needs doing, not the mainboard or the set itself.

Tell me the numbers written on the back of the banel metal-work, be something like 42X3####

You can bridge the opto with blobs of solder done carefully this is fine.
--But,--As Tom says--Only bridge the one side of the optos.

The green spots can be adjusted out sometimes but the official cure is a Software Update to the Contol-Board.
--Let me know if you want control-board update, I have the complete kit to update lots of LG sets--including the PC1 series....

What are these optocouplers? And where? I was wondering about bridging them to see if the tv will fire up

You will probably need to place a solder bridge between pins 4-3 on both optocouplers. That's how I fixed mine.
Hi to all!! I'm new, I have a LG 42PC1RV-ZJ plasma TV that had the same symptoms slappala TV. I think that the solution can be the same.

Please, i don't understand very well what i have to do:
Maybe I have to place a solder bridge between pins 4 of one optocoupler to pin3 on the other???
Or I have to put a solder bridge between pin 4 of a optocoupler to pin 3 on the same in booth optocoupler?

    TOM66 help me please!

    Thanks a lot!!

Great, so there is no issue. Yes, it only happened on mine when power is unplugged, and only then on bright scenes. Dark scenes caused no click. I figured this was due to the standby supply lasting longer than the main supply so the TV could recognise a power failure and cut off the speakers.

LG 60PV450 Possible Bad YSUS Need help confirming Diagnosis
    by PlasMatt
I have an LG plasma that after reading through a bunch of posts and doing some testing I believe has a bad YSUS board. The problem is that that doesn't make sense to me for some of the symptoms. The problem started yesterday. While watching a movie the TV just shut down like I pressed power. I have it hooked to a PC and use RS232 to turn it off and on so I thought maybe something had glitched there. I turned it back on and finished the movie with no problems. The same thing happened today so I checked logs to see if something in the control glitched and sent an off command but it didn't, After...

plasma TV Lg 42w451 - why is the zsus igbts damaged when the ysus is plugged?
    by Salvatore057
    Hi all,
I am trying to fix my plasma TV which is not powering on due to damaged IGBTs. I have changed two igbts and 2 IC drivers on the zsus and also two igbts on the ysus.
Now everytime I plugged the ZSUS and the YSUS boards to the power board, the two 30f124 IGBT on the ZSUS are damaged and the TV stays in standby mode. When I plug the ZSUS board alone the TV turns ON but I do not see pictures. When I plug the ZSUS board without the two 30f124 IGBTs and the YSUS board, the TV powers on with a picture.
I am lost, should I change the YSUS board? Is the YSUS board damaging...

LG 60PB6650 - Bad ZSUS (3.8v to YSUS instead of 16v)?
    by JDC
    Make and Model: LG 60PB6650-UA
Issue: Turns on, no backlight, can hear static (no channel)

I've been repairing TVs for a couple years now. I know how to use a multimeter for the most part and know how to test most components for shorts.

The power board connects to the ZSUS and then connects to the YSUS. The ZSUS is where I believe the failure is because the 16v line is only 3.8V, even when I disconnect the ZSUS from the YSUS.

This particular model seems to have a common failure with its YSUS. My goal earlier was to prove the YSUS was bad so I could...

Onkyo DX-V500 Laser Disc Player - weird SMPS fault
    by dkneyle
This relic from a technology path that came to a dead end (but still has historical interest) was brought in with a dead SMPS, which is based around a MK1210 device. I got it going after a battle. It seems to have a strange design - if it's not getting feedback that the secondary is OK it cause the big FET to go into full conduction and overloads resulting in a blown fuse at best or something worse! I'm using a Dim Bulb Tester (70W/230V) which thankfully has saved the day a number of times whilst repairing.

Now, it loads a CD OK. The motor voltage output (which is built onto the SMPS...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
    by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....
