LG 50PC1DRA Plasma Tv
have a LG 50in PlasmaTv (50PC1DRA) and getting a message when I power it on 'HDD Problem Detected'...It pops and cuts offseveral times before I can get it to stay on. . I have tried unplugging when it is on.... foe 2 to 3 hours and the tv come on fine but the next time I power on it's right back like it was. Once the tv does stay on, there is a ticking sound on the left hand side for about 10 seconds& then its fine..Has this happened to anybody ?? and if yes is there a solution!!

HDD problem detected? My first guess is that it has a hard disk and that has a problem..... but why would a plasma TV have a built in HDD? Does it record content? Is it an internet TV?Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Well, the first task would be to take the back cover off the set, and take good pictures of the inside, then post them here, so we all know what we're dealing with. Up to 2000x2000 pictures are allowed on this forum.
You'll probably need a new HDD for it. If it's 160GB and SATA like what I have read, that will cost around £20. The same drives are used in many modern desktop computers. It could also be small form factor (laptop size), in which case that would be £35-40.
The ticking sound is very much characteristic of a failed disk drive. It startles me that it will not let the set power on but disable the recording feature until it's been serviced; nope, it just stops you using it entirely.Last edited by tom66; 09-02-2011, 12:44 PM.Please do not PM me with questions! Hello,
I am having Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV. While the TV was working, a crackling sound heard & video went off with audio still ON. After switching it off & ON, the red LED on TV blinks six times & then off.
Opened TV cover & observed foll
a) Green LED on the small PCB blinks at @5-6sec ON & off for 3-4 secs. Red LED on logic board ON
b)Vs & Va on power supply board raises momentarily to 209v & 58v resp & then drops.
c) Cold test on Y-main board shows all 3 pins of FGPF4536 IGBT short to Grnd.

Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults... -
Picked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.
When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on... -

I'm interested in understanding how a buffer board chip is working. I know there's about 90 outputs per chip to the plasma panel, but I'm more interested to know about the input pins. I guess that some of them are address pins, but I want to know more.
So far I've found nothing at all. I haven't found any datasheet about the various buffer chips, and I haven't found any schematic for the buffer board using them (Y Buffer Board in Samsung's terminology).
Any information will make me happy. It can be from any buffer chip or plasma TV manufacturer....
