    Sony KDL-46V5100

    I have a Sony kdl-46v5100 that doesn't show any picture or any backlight. The only thing it does is the relay clicks when power button is pushed and the standby light gives 2 flashes. I am thinking it is the power supply board but i wasn't sure what to look for on it that would lead to suspecting it. I ordered one off ebay to test it. If it isn't the power supply board what board would suggest it being??

      ok thats the one we ordered. Is it just a swap and go? Or are there error codes that need to be cleared? I am kind of new to this whole TV repair thing.

        I have the same model (Sony KDL-46V5100), same symptoms; click on power cycle, no video, no sound, and no backlight.

        The logic board does appear to get the standby voltage, as evidence by a red flash in the optical audio input port.

        I read somewhere that this was likely the main logic board, rather than the power supply board (IP2?). Logic board model number 1-879-239-13 / A1660699A

        Any suggestions? Thanks!

            do you have any indicator light on the front? can you post some good clear straight on pictures of each board and one of the whole back as to see how everything is connected.

                Thanks for the response. There is a single click when the TV is turned on or off; once on there is no sound of any kind, nor any picture.

                When the unit is off there is no standby light that I can see. Once turned on, there is a green LED light along the bottom of the frame towards the right of the unit as you face the screen.

                I do have a multimeter to check things; was hoping to test the voltage arriving at the board from the power board, as well as the power going to the LCD controller (T-Con?), to verify where the issue is. But I'm not sure where to test - in a hole in the wiring harnesses coming into and going out of the logic board?

                I've attached a picture of the whole thing (I think); I can send close-ups of the boards but there isn't good light in the room I have the unit in, so it'll be a minute. I will say that they look clean, no visible scorching or capacitor bulging/leaking.

                    I don't know this set- but it appears the relay RY6000 gets 3.3V standby power (for the clunk) which then switches primary power to the PFC and main 12V SMPS.
                    So I would check if the 12V rail is coming up, say at CN6150, measure and list all voltages on that connector and CN6154 too.

                      1 - 0v
                      2 - 2.9v
                      3 - 4.0v
                      4 - ~12v decaying; starts at a high value and drifts lower.
                      5 - ~12v decaying
                      6-13 - 0v

                      CN6151:
                      1 - 12v
                      2 - 12v
                      3 - 0v
                      4- 0v

                      CN6154:
                      1-4 - 0v
                      5 - 3.5v

                      Is the decaying voltage a sign of a leaky capacitor?

                        could be, check the 4 electrolytic caps closest to cn6150 or you might want to just change them out, they're usually the ones that start acting up first, I would check ALL solder joints on powerboard, make sure tv has been unplugged for a few hours because of the high voltage the big cap can hold around 400 volts which can be LETHAL, be careful where you touch the board with your hands, just the edges is best, you can check the voltage left in the big cap with multimeter set to vdc, probe on each leg to make sure it's drained, depending on type of meter you have if it's not auto-ranging then set it to 400 or closest, then can go to 200 or 20 til you get a reading, because it can be tricky, if the cap has 400 volts in it and It's tested on the 20 volt setting it won't read the voltage because its out of range, will just read ol or l or such, example of bad solder joints there, look them over closely, touch up any suspect looking joints, check closely the joints on transformers and the components located on heatsinks BUT check ALL joints, careful not to bridge any, can practice soldering/de-soldering on an old scrap circuit board if not use to it: https://www.google.com/search?q=bad+...ih=607&dpr=1.5

                          Thanks for the info, I'll look for any obvious damage but probably won't be swapping any capacitors,

                          To test the rails I unclipped the ribbon connectors, breaking the connection to the logic board. Given that, do the readings I got convince you that it is the power board (I2P) and *not* the logic board? Or does disconnecting the cable change what I should expect?

                            To see what effect disconnecting the cable might have had, I left it installed and checked the voltages on the solder paths leading the destination rail on the logic board coming *from* CN6150 - labelled CN1003, circled in the picture - and indeed got different results.
                            1 - 3.9v
                            2 - 2.8v
                            3 - 3.9v
                            4 - 18v (steady)
                            5 - 18v
                            6-10 - 0v
                            11 - 15v
                            12 - 15v
                            13 - 15v

                              can you label those? like power_on xxx, ac_det xxx, so we know what pin is what.

                                  some of those voltages seem a little high compared to the picture but I think they are ok, now try this little test that I used on my old kdl, with tv unplugged from power, unhook cable from powerboard to mainboard leave it off, plug power cord back in, see if theres anything on the display.

                                    Probably I just have a crap multimeter.

                                    I tried the test, didn't see anything on the screen - but would have missed anything subtle, as there is daylight in the room. Also, with the cable disconnected the TV doesn't turn on (click, green LED), so I'm not surprised.

                                      First check all the fuses on the board, Sony has a lot of them with the numbers "Fxxxx".
