Apex AD-1010w DVD Player - Repaired

This Apex DVD player had bad caps. in the power supply.

It would only turn on 1 in 5 times, and even then, you really had to jack-around with the power button to get it to come on. Even when it did power-up, the power light was flashing instead of solid. It still wouldn't play a DVD (because some of the required voltages were still missing from the PS output header).

See attached pics and docs. The pics were taken after the 4 leaking caps were removed. They were not bulging, just leaking a little underneath... pretty hard to see actually. I went ahead and replaced all the caps on the Low-voltage side of the transformer (for a total of 8). They were some asian off-brand.

It works great now. Maybe this will help somebody one day.

Good going. This psu board has plenty of room and easy to work on. Be sure to get off all the goop, because it can stay there and continue to eat traces, corrode leads and so on. Have a look at your main pc board for regulators and filters that might need some attention, too.
    Is it plugged in?

Yes, I did. As you can see from the pics, it's a single-sided board, so it was easy to clean up.

The main logic board (not pictured) was very small and IIRC, all SMT parts. It looked fine.

I can't seem to edit my original post, so to be clear... The original bad caps. were an asian off-brand. I replaced with new Nichicons.

        Victrola multi-player - No audio
        by kokopelli75
        Hello!

My mother has a Victrola Navigator player that stopped functioning after a storm. I checked out what I could - all player functions appear to work, but there is no audio output in either the speakers or the headphone jack. I suspect (with my limited knowledge) that the amplifier part of the device is toast. Photo of the suspected board is attached. There's separate boards for front display, record player, etc. This board has a section for power regulation and a section for amp. There's a UTC7266 7+7W dual bridge amplifier IC and a CSC2314F sound processor IC on the board. Visually,...

LG BH6420P Home theather blue ray player repair
        by unimatrix93
Hello everyone, I'm trying to troubleshoot this LG hometheater player.

The customer forced her USB drive reversed into it's USB socket and since then the player won't work properly, only shows "Please wait" error forever on it's display.

Now I started diagnosing the USB socket and the mainboard where it's connected.

I found 20ohm resistance to ground on the 5V line of the USB.

5V is missing and I found the buck converter of the USB line, TPS65252 IC.
After measuring the pins I realized that both VIN and 3V3 is correctly present...

Panasonic AG-1000B VHS player with bad picture quality
        by FZG
        Hello!

I recently got an old VHS player from Panasonic and just for fun I want to try to repair this device. It is an AG-1000B portable VHS player from 1990 and it has a problem with picture quality in playback mode.

Picture in playback mode is very noisy and often loses sync but the still images are nearly perfect.

I want to know, is this something that could be solved by recapping or is the video head likely gone?

        Also, what mechanism is this?

        Any feedback is appreciated!...

Help troubleshooting an audio problem with an RCA SGT-250 CED Player
        by samson7point1@yahoo.com
The Problem: This player has a toggle switch to select between Stereo, Mono R, and Mono L. Regardless of the setting it outputs the sound to both the L&R audio jacks. In the Mono R position, the audio output level is normal (from both the L and R audio output jacks), in the Stereo position the audio output is about half the volume, and in Mono L, it's about 3/4 the volume. Something about putting it into Stereo mode is causing the volume to drop significantly and I can't figure it out.

The player processes the audio signal using two different reference frequencies. The "R"...
