    Re: Toshiba 32HLC56

As far as how the inverter works, there are two possible configurations. One is each secondary winding drives one CCFL. The other end of the CCFLs are grounded. The other (more likely) configuration is both secondaries drive the ends of a single CCFL. The windings are 180° out of phase. The other ends of the secondaries are used to sense current. The white patches near the output connectors cover a pad etched in the board. They are one plate of the capacitors used to sense output voltage. The other plate is a layer inside the board.

The inverter works by generating a constant current. If the voltage across any CCFL, or the current through any CCFL goes too high or too low, the inverter shuts down.

Aaaah, I see. Thank u so much for taking the time to explain!

I got the guy on ebay to sell me the whole inverter for $20.00 + actual shipping charges (1st class mail - like USD 3-4), so hopefully I won't have to deal with these lifted PCB traces I have now after removing this thing!!

Sweet deal. Now, hopefully that inverter works.

Sell the other 6 working transformers off your old board for $10 each on ebay and send one to PlainBill for free!

Hehe... i was actually going to offer to send the remaining board to either you or plainbill, I just wanted to wait until i had it in hand before making potentially false promises ;-).

Oh man - I see the package in the manager's office. The last thing I told the Ebay dude was "Please make sure it is packed properly in a sturdy packaging so that the board doesn't get damaged in transit." So he puts the board in a "padded envelope". There are holes in it where the corners of the board poked through. Wonderful. What a dufus. Oh well. Should know by tomorrow night if the board is ruined or not...

                Thanks Scenic.

Well, I now have one working Toshiba 32HLC56 TV Monitor. :-)

PlainBill: If you'll PM me your shipping/mailing address, I'll be happy to shoot this old inverter board off to you, sans the bad transformer (and in more sensible packaging even!!). I believe that transformer was the only bad part on it.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in to this thread to help me get to the bottom of this one!!

Thanks for the offer, but I must respectfully decline. My wife will be retiring in about 3 1/2 years. At that time we want to move into a smaller house. I figure if we have a garage sale every weekend for the next three years I will actually have enough clear space to start packing up my office.

                      Nobody by name.

                      Here are several suggestions:

                      1. List it for sale on eBay, "For parts, one bad transformer"

                      2. Pull the transformers and sell them on eBay.

                      3. Post it on the For Sale / For trade section here "Free, 'buyer' pays shipping."
