    Samsung un65mu8000

This model is the one with the one connect or whatever.

Problem. Supposed lightning strike, who knows. Turn on TV, backlight comes on, then goes slightly dim and no picture. No error code, backlight is on. On the very bottom there is a small white line about 3 inches long 1 sm tall, one for each side of screen both evenly. This goes away when disconnecting panel ribbons.

Power supply. Gives 13v across all pins correctly, gives correct LED voltage to backlight when disconnected from main. PWM 1-13 (or whatever it is) all give 3.3 v all disconnected.

Plug in 13v to main, all voltages stay same and pwm is 3.3 still.

Plug in second connector to main, all voltages drop from 3.3 (on PWM) down to like .5, .6, .5, .6 etc. None are 3v. They are steady. The 13v side stays 13 v.

Similar test with all ribbons to panel disconnected 1 side at a time etc.

PWM always drops. As a note, backlight stays bright when ribbons connected to main/panel and 13v wire connected to main. They only dim when the PWM ribbon is connected.

I'm trying to Google what PWM and research what it is. Any advice? Is this a main board issue then? Can we isolate it to this and would it have anything to do with reflowing main chip.

    Thanks

Pulse-width modulation (PWM), in this case it is used to control the intensity of the backlights.

Thanks, did some digging and not uncommon for the voltage to drop to I believe.

Looking like a failed panel can close these here. Tape method showing black

Test the buffer board for shorted caps see if you find any

I tested them, found none. Decided base on tape panel method and still got lines it was toast.

I took all the parts off and found water damage and the chassis rusted, and one of the ribbons to be broken. There she wrote.
