Re: Sony tv 55W905a
Maybe try some simple things first before having to take the back off, unplug tv let it sit for 5 minutes, hold the power button in on tv for 30 seconds, plug tv back in and try it. Another thing to try, unplug tv for 5 minutes, hold power and volume + while plugging in tv. hold both til screen comes on then release, if it don't come on after a minute it probably won't work. -
Re: Sony tv 55W905a
If no joy then probably time to take the back off, start with cleaning the ribbon cable ends from tcon to panel with isoprophyl alcohol, some use a pencil eraser, not too vigorously they can be fragile, check that all your cable connections are clean and secure/not loose, I'm not exaclty sure what host_wdt is, I think LD_ERR has to do with LD board or maybe bad backlight/s. This tv is about 10 years old right, that's a pretty good run for led backlights, so would not be surprised if some were bad.Comment

Re: Sony tv 55W905a
My best guess is the tv is detecting the error after 20 seconds and shutting down, I think it's bad led strips.Comment

Re: Sony tv 55W905a
Maybe one of the knowledgeable members can help you test expected led voltages to be sure, I do see some strips on ali there, I don't know anything about the seller just saw the ad: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/22558...2usa4itemAdaptComment

Re: Sony tv 55W905a
Hard for me to tell without a good clear picture of the powerboard and the little maps/legends, some of the sonys can be tested by grounding the bl_error wire that's correct, usually done by taking the wire out from connector and putting it in one of the empty ground slots on the connector of ld board if available, so if it applies, look at bl_error wire going to ld board take it out with small flat head screwdriver or such on the ld board connector and put in in an empty ground slot on same connector if available. This is for testing and it is not advised to run tv like this, many examples of this test on youtube.Comment

Re: Sony tv 55W905a
Ok, well make sure all your connections are clean and not loose and the ribbon cable ends of tcon are clean, can use isoprophyl alcohol or pencil eraser, not too vigorous they are kind of delicate. You may have just had some oxidation, did you unplug and re-plug any cables while testing?Comment

Re: Sony tv 55W905a
Kind of hard to tell, If I had to guess I would suspect one or more of the electrolytic capacitors on the powerboard might be going bad, just a guess, i would update the firmware on it but being from 2013 they probably don't have it on their site still.Comment

by dkneyleDiagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.
Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about... -
