    Re: Antec SP500P "resurrection"

Okaaaaay... Bad news: on friday, the Antec pretty much kicked the bucket

When i left from home, around 11am, it was all fine. Around 2pm, when i came back, the psu made this constant ticking noise, and gave out all sorts of "glitches" on the tv (HDMI output of the mobo video) and the audio (s/pdif out from an SB Live).

A restart didn't fix it. Upon shutting down, wouldn't come back on.

    Investigation: 5Vsb totally dead (0V).

Something still seems to be working though, just not right. Nothing's shorted on the primary, and on the PFC Vcc line i'm getting some 50mV or so.

    Ideas?

      Re: Antec SP500P "resurrection"

Odd twist: i had taken out the load resistor on the 5Vsb line, to measure the rectifier without interference; it checked out.

Then i thought i'd plug in the PSU to see if the switcher manages to power itself up (i wanted to measure the voltage it gets from the aux winding on the 5Vsb transformer). Upon plug-in, the series 100w lightbulb stayed lit; i promptly pulled the plug - it hadn't done this before, just the normal cap-charging brief pulse.

Soldered the resistor back in, same behaviour. The ViPER chip *DOES* get a bit warm after a 1-2second power-up.

      I should start looking for a replacement, shouldn't i?

Sounds like your Viper might be bad - wouldn't hurt to replace it. What is the Vdd voltage on pin 4? Also, what kind of load does your computer put on the 5vsb line. The USB ports might be using some of that 5vsb power.

Antec Earthwatts EA-380 smd element type/value
          by sirpsychol
While recaping Antec Earthwatts EA-380 I've broke one side of unknown smd element, it have no print, it's flatter and darker than smd capacitors on this board, shaped more like resistor but it's not resistor ofc. Unfortunetly the printed description was under it and element was glued to the board so I cant read/tell the letter before element number too. Have anyone any idea what it is? Maybe is there any diagram of this PSU?

          Picking caps for Antec SU-380
          by ajdrenter
In my search for a proper 5v heavy ATX power supply, I selected an old Antec SU-380 that I've had in storage for a long time. Opening the power supply reveals a couple bulged capacitors. I removed all the caps and made a map for myself. I found the datasheet for the PCE TUR series in this thread:
          https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14159
It says these are general purpose, so I assume I can replace them with any general purpose capacitors, but I don't really know anything about power supply circuits or reading capacitor datasheets. Despite this, I've been shopping for replacements:...

Antec Smart Power SL300S capacitor replacement.
          by CWEastwood
          Hello,

I'm currentlly in the process of trying my first power supply repair (really my first soldering project) and have some questions with regard to which capacitors to replace the bad ones.

The power supply is an Antec Smart Power SL300S ATX12V 300 watt.

I have successfully desoldered every capacitor from the board without destroying anything (I think) and I am currently in the process of choosing which caps to order. This is where I'd like a little community wisdom.

Now the capacitors inside are mostly Fuhjyyus (a forum favorite) with 1...

          Antec VP-600P and NE550M dead
          by s_henya
          Hi all,

Got in these 2 nice PSUs, both died after power surge.
Both seems to be suffering from the same fault.
          Blown main fuse
          Shorted N mosfet 550v
          VP-600P: 5R280CE short between GDS
          NE550M: MDF18N50 short between GDS

In terns of board layout these seems pretty identical.

From past knowledge, once gate get shorted, most likely the for the driver to go bad as well.
I never tried to salvage blown fuse PSU with shorted Mosfet due to that.

Is it worth to try and replace the mosfets? is there a chance that the...

          Antec BP500U APFC Coil
          by GnatGoSplat
Antec BP500U PSU fried in my wife's gaming PC. I smelled something unpleasant last night, so I had a hunch something might be amiss. Woke up this morning to a popped breaker and immediately assumed the APFC cap must have blown. I last fixed it sometime in 2011, there's a thread about it here someplace. APFC and secondary caps that time. Replaced them with Panasonic caps. 10+yrs is probably a good run. It's been running 24/7 the last 3yrs, eth mining with a 1070ti and AFK fishing in Black Desert Online, lol.

Anyway, cracked it open this morning, expecting it to just be the APFC cap...
