    Enermax modu87+ 500W wierdness

This might be interesting to some.
I recieved this power supply with the issue of "not starting the computer"

The unit is a resonant topology with syncronious rectification plus two DC-DC converter on the secondary. All capacitors are NCC.
The owner attempted to repair the psu by replacing some caps... then putting the originals back.

When I powered up the unit for examination there was a stable 5V standby supply but after a few minutes a capacitor vented in the standby circuit. This power rail is generated by a TOP265EG monolithic device.
I replaced the exploded capacitor and started measuring voltages. After a few minutes the new capacitor blow up.
I started tracking the circuit and looked for more faulty parts. According to the TOP265EG datasheet the cap that blows up at C3 position is in the feedback bias for this standby circuit.

    Then I noticed something wierd.
When powered there is 6V across this capacitor which is ok. But looking at the silkscreen the polarity is wrong! I couldn't believe it is reversed until I looked at a photo of an original unit for comparison.

So this means that the owner reassambled the unit back according to the silkscreening... and it fooled him too.
After installing another capacitor, this time reversed, there were no more explosions. I also replaced a fast diode just in case it might have been damaged.

Anyway, the original problem was caused by the faulty PS231 supervisor. The power-ok signal wasn't present when the unit was turned on. Replacing the ic solved the issue. I suppose this silkscreening mistake must have been known by Eneramx back then... after several failed units during testing.

That looks like a really nice PSU too, sad to see that was an issue with it. However seems that once you know about the issue and fix it, it seems to be a very nice PSU.
    Popcorn.

It's a good 500W Gold unit even if it's a bit old. This faulty supervisor problem might be rare too.

ah well looks like factory qc in china is getting from bad to worse from the wrong silkscreening on the pcb. i saw another opposite issue from this in another member's topic. the silkscreening was correct but the factory installed the cap in reverse/wrong polarity.

          Dears

Apologize reopening this, but I have wierd symtpoms in my Enermax Modu87+ module - after going to Sleep, CPU fan spinns @max speed but maimboard (Asus MVG) is off.

Due to Custom HTPC setup Replacement with another model.

Any idea if this can be fixeds

Repair of an LG split AC system indoor unit PCB
            by ngml
I am trying to repair an LG split AC indoor unit, which does not start and gives a CH05 error code.
This indicates an error in the communication between the outdoor and the indoor unit.
The outdoor unit is fine, so the problem is the indoor PCB.
The indoor unit is an LG PC09SQ NSJ (3SNM09JA2FA), and the PCB has the following type number: EAX35907219-1.2 (see photo1)
I changed optocouplers ICO1X & ICO2X and the NPN transistor S9013 which drives optocoupler ICO2X (see photo2), but this did not remedy the fault.

Does anybody have the schematics of this board,...

Garage door RX unit (Cardin S38C) does not short relay to send opening signal
            by CoinCoin88
            Hello everyone,

I'm turning to the Badcaps community to help me troubleshoot the radio Rx card from my (old) garage door opener. While I could just ditch that card and replace the whole system, I first would like to understand "why" it suddenly stopped working, because that's just how I am wired...!

Some basics: the receiver works on a 30.875 Mhz frequency. Yes, I'm aware this is not in use anymore in a looot of places. It does not use any rolling code, it's just a regular dip-switch code that you have to set up on both the receiver and transmitter. The receiver...

Unit runs but no speaker output kenwood KR-6030
            by DrDos
I have finished my work. The new lights come on except the one for stereo, I reversed the bulbs to no affect, anyway, the unit powers on, relay clicks. I have no DC voltage in speaker outputs, I also do not have any AC in the speaker outputs. There is some faint crackling in the speaker. This unit cranks up loud so I had the volume on very low. Everything seems to be fine but I can't really check the switch until I can get sound out of the outputs. I was going to do caps for the power supplys and the tone board but thought if it was cranking loud at one time maybe just leave it alone until it...

Bose Companion 5 - Unit Powers On then Cuts Off Shortly After
            by nobbnobb1
            Hi guys,

Trying to salvage a Bose Companion 5 computer speaker system that powers off shortly after powering on. It's got a primary USB input (built in DAC) and an aux 3.5mm input. The USB appears to be the primarily source that tells the unit to power on (control pod LED goes green) as the unit has no power switch.

When I first connect power to the unit, plug in the USB, it will play audio nicely for a minute before it drops out and the unit appears to go into standby (control pod LED goes red). It stays in standby and I cannot seem to power it back on without physically...

Air-conditioning unit power supply failing to power up
            by Gjackson
Hi all, I managed to narrow down which PCB was causing my Haier AC to throw out an E7 error code (E7 indicates that the indoor unit and outdoor unit cannot communicate). I found that the outdoor unit power board which gives 5v and 15v to the outdoor unit module board fails to fully power up.. The power Led starts to fade in incredibly slowly and the 5v and 15v power buses jump around like crazy and never reach their required voltage. I unplugged the module board from the power board and the power board powered up fine! It had a steady 5v and 15v out and the power LED came on instantly and Bright....
