    Sata power cable

For a project I'm modifying a sata powercable for use with 2.5" ssd only so I removed 3.3V and 12V cable to only to keep 5V and ground.

Does it matter which of the two ground cables I keep ?

    Re: Sata power cable

Wouldn't the 2.5" SSD work with those voltage still attached? I know the regular 2.5" SATA HDDs have on problems when hooked up to a desktop power supply.

Yes the ssd's would still work but I'm using a meanwell supply with 5V output so I removed the extra cables I don't need.

After googling this I found out it's best to keep the ground cable next to the yellow 12V wire, the drive will always power on and not wait until spoken to.

      From wikipedia
If pulled down at the connector (as it is on most cable-style SATA power connectors), the drive spins up as soon as power is applied. If left floating, the drive waits until it is spoken to. This prevents many drives from spinning up simultaneously, which might draw too much power.

Never got any problem running 2.5'' drives on desktop. Well, once I got some I/O problems, maybe data cable was seated wrong, but that unit was already bad on sectors.

          Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue
          by GLISIT
          Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Nvidia Tesla P40 (Q0V80A) Enterprise GPU, I put the power cable on backwards.

Ok I screwed up big time and hoping I can fix. I will break down what happened and the images.
          • Have Dell PowerEdge R730
          • Bought Tesla P40
          • Researched power cables and order correct one, pic had two black connectors in photos
          • Power cable arrived, same connectors (EPS-12v) on both ends
Both sides are the same plug but different colors. The listing stated that colors would be random. OK I plug it in, red side to riser board, black side to GPU.
          • Power on.
          • System immediately turns off.
          • I only had 1 PSU plugged in and it was blinking orange, I thought I drew too much so I plugged in

Acer TravelMate P214 - N19Q7 main power rail shorted to ground
          by mkdj
          Dear all,

I have taken out the motherboard of a Acer TravelMate P214. There is a short to ground on the main power rail (19V). I don't have the schematics or boardview for this board (DAZ8IMB1AA0 REVA). But I have found 4 MOSFETS close to the main power rail : 2 N-Channel and 2 P-Channel.

I have checked resistance across each of the 4 MOSFETS. I have the following readings:
          Both N-Channel Mosfets: nothing odd

          P-Channel MOSFET number 1:
          source - drain : 117 kOhm
          source - gate: 96 Ohm
          gate - drain: 117 kOhm

          P-Channel MOSFET...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

GIGABYTE X299 AORUS ULTRA GAMING - SATA PORTS 4-7 NOT WORKING ???
          by DynaxSC
          Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...
