    Antec SP300 fails again!

After fixing it the first time around from https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24113 the old venerable PSU has failed again! Well, not totally dead. I had been powering a Prescott 3GHz with 5 HDDs with an onboard GPU. It had trouble powering up the system at first (would cycle) but eventually it would come on.

However it had came on the last time. Now it won't power up any more. Yes I think this system might have been really pushing a 300W PSU.

Anyway, 5VSB still looks good, and... if I short the green wire to GND, it will turn on just fine when the PSU is not plugged into a motherboard!

Swapping this PSU with the repaired SP400 powers up the P4 machine so something strange is going on... Perhaps one of the secondary diodes gave up?

(BTW Anyone seen PeteS in CA recently? Haven't seen any of his insightful posts in a while.)

Samsung F7000 occasionally cycles and fails to switch on
      by nath1977
I have a UE40F7000 Samsung which occasionally fails to properly come out of standby. The relay clicks and the backlight flashes but then goes off again with a click, and repeats. I think its temperature related as leaving it overnight seems to allow it to switch on OK.

I assume its PSU related and had a look - it's a BN44-00632B. No signs of swollen caps or hot components.

I saw a great YouTube video on a possible PFC related issues and an underrated resistor https://youtu.be/DREofE4WIvg?feature=shared though a quick trace from the SPC7011F pin 7 lead me to a resistor...

Asus XD4 fails at the booting process.
      by McKey
It is the router module (XD4R). It stucks basically immediately and has a solid white light. I hooked it up to UART, it fails at the beginning of the boot sequence, where it is checking its hardware (see below).
Can someone guess from this what could fail on this little bad boy?
It has three bigger coils, all have the correct voltages -compared to the node module (XD4N). The cpu has almost the same resistance as on the node, i guess the differences are coming from the plus chip that is connected to the same coil on the router module. Im suspecting the RAM, i already tried to reflow...

A1706 fails to install OS to any disk

      Lectori salutem!

      The patient is an A1706 model - 2017 mb pro 13” core i7 16GB 512GB 4-thunderbolt ports

      Symptoms:
      • Boots in recovery mode (Sierra)
      • Internal SSD is visible and can be erased / partitioned
      • Sierra install starts with 6 minutes estimate, but at the end of the countdown fails with β€œAn error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.”
      • The same happens when I connect an external SSD or a USB-C thumbdrive and try to reinstall Sierra on that drive.
      • Does not boot from external (Sonoma) bootable thumbdrive

Antec Earthwatts EA-380 smd element type/value
      by sirpsychol
While recaping Antec Earthwatts EA-380 I've broke one side of unknown smd element, it have no print, it's flatter and darker than smd capacitors on this board, shaped more like resistor but it's not resistor ofc. Unfortunetly the printed description was under it and element was glued to the board so I cant read/tell the letter before element number too. Have anyone any idea what it is? Maybe is there any diagram of this PSU?

      Picking caps for Antec SU-380
      by ajdrenter
In my search for a proper 5v heavy ATX power supply, I selected an old Antec SU-380 that I've had in storage for a long time. Opening the power supply reveals a couple bulged capacitors. I removed all the caps and made a map for myself. I found the datasheet for the PCE TUR series in this thread:
      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14159
It says these are general purpose, so I assume I can replace them with any general purpose capacitors, but I don't really know anything about power supply circuits or reading capacitor datasheets. Despite this, I've been shopping for replacements:...
