Corsair RM850x (synchronous ATX) need help troubleshooting

    Hi all,

I have a Corsair RM850x that refuses to turn on. I have 5v stby but as soon as I try to power it up it goes 'click' and does not deliver any voltages.
I have not been able to find any blown or shorted components and there are no bulging capacitors. I have replaced the APFC controller and for a brief period (2 or 3 on/off cycles) the PSU worked but then the fault returned. Perhaps heating the PFC area is what resulted in the temporary fix?
The only option I see now is to start pulling components one by one, but before I proceed, perhaps someone more knowledgeable could suggest a better approach.

    Many thanks in advance!

Check it out if it turns very briefly on and then turns off? If that’s the case the supervisor IC may be shutting it down. Post some straight shot high resolution pictures of the PSU, so we can see something.

So this morning I thought it would be a good idea to hit the PFC area with the hot air gun to see if I can get it to power on again... and *boom* something blew and the power went out in the whole house. I think it was the thermistor. Now the question is: was it the thermistor all along or did I create a new fault?
I've got my money on the thermistor being the culprit because I did not apply a lot of heat so it should not have blown up the way it did.

Could it be a thermistor? Sure. But it just limits the power to the primary side and acts kinda like a fuse if it blows. So it shouldn’t blow up the PSU. I got no idea what you did. I think the supervisor IC cut the primary off.and you were going down the wrong road concentrating on the PFC without looking why it is not working. The supervisor can turn the PSU off. You would have had a look on the state of the Fault Protection Pin first. These are complicated little buggers,

Can not find Model/Value of Thermistor.
            by nmbb
            Machine: Autoclave.
            Brand/Model: SANYO MLS-3780
Manual: (Sorry search option not working on this PDF)

Hello guys, this autoclave running with 2 thermistors already connected TH1 and TH3(on CN1,CN2 sockets). One for the water temperture and second one for chamber temperature. But there is another emtpy socket for optional third thermistor CN2 wich is for TH2 for object temperature. I wanna add the third thermistor TH2 to CN2 socket. But i can't figure what model/brand/value i need to use. In manual document, there is no info about TH1 and TH3 model number...

Corsair RM850x Synchronous ATX PSU - need help diagnosing
            by W1ngl3t
            Hi all,

I have a relatively new (from 2018) Corsair RM850x PSU that refuses to turn on.
The 5v standby rail is working fine, but when I try to turn it on it shuts itself off in a few milliseconds.
There are no obvious shorts to be found and this is what I can see with my oscilloscope:
            - 3.3v and 5v hold their intended voltages fine for a few millisecond
            - the 12v rail goes to 12v on startup and then goes into decline
            - when the 3.3v and 5v rails are switched off the 12v rail momentarily increases a bit (probably perfectly normal)
            - as per...

            Corsair GS600 TTC-103 thermistor alternative?
            by sorehead_5
I have a Corsair GS600 PSU that switches on and produces all the right voltages. However, when the psu starts the fans spins, but then never spins again until the PSU shuts itself down - overheating.
The fan is designed not to operate the fan below 40 degrees C, but I have traced and open circuit TTC-103 thermistor and am looking for an alternative/replacement and cannot find a reliable source in the UK and I don't have the skills to confidently specify an alternative myself.
            Any thoughts?

practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards
            by blues_spirit
            Hello from France,
mon2 kindly advised me to post a thread to ask the question(s) I'm concerned about. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards especially laptops in Europe, if possible in France. I have been a computer network system administrator and a corrector of administration modules for automated programs under Unix. But I really miss the practical "ops" side of troubleshooting. So I would like to start from the beginning: 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V and 19V tests for example, etc...
Do you think this is feasible for me? I...

This person's fault was exactly the same as mine, even down to the power strip and with the muffled popping sound.
I suspect that my problem started with an old power strip, of which a computer and a 2000W heater were plugged into...
I noticed melting and heat where the heater was plugged in, so i plugged the heater directly into a double wall socket, but still noticed the muffled pop sound when i turned on the computer, and...
