    General troubleshooting flowchart for PSU's

    Hi guys,

I'm just getting into repairing PSU's - I know a couple pins need to be jumpered to "turn on" the PSU, and switching PSU's need a load attached to not mess up when powered.

Is there a general flowchart to determine how the PSU powers itself up? At the very least, some order in which to test in order to determine where to look?

step1: open it for a visual check - it may save you from smoke/flames!
    (that goes for fixing anything)

    step2 - does the 5v standby work?
because wihout that - you cant turn it on no matter how many wires you connect together!

So that's a good start - Visual check, then +5V standby before anything

What happens if I have +5V standby and the PSU doesnt power on when PS_ON is jumpered?

Include in your visual check.............to look at the red switch on the back of the power supply (some power supplies don't have one but most do). I just got a dead power supply from a shop.......the red switch was in the 230 volt position. Here in the United States we run with 115 volts AC. So........of course the power supply would not turn on. This kind of problem can often be solved by simply changing the switch position from 230 volts to 115 volts.

If you live in a country that runs on 230 volts, a power supply with the switch in the 115 volt position will probably smoke, spark, and create quite a show.

About the flowchart, you can check the creately diagramming community for some answers. use an example and start drawing with the flowchart software.

practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards
                by blues_spirit
                Hello from France,
mon2 kindly advised me to post a thread to ask the question(s) I'm concerned about. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards especially laptops in Europe, if possible in France. I have been a computer network system administrator and a corrector of administration modules for automated programs under Unix. But I really miss the practical "ops" side of troubleshooting. So I would like to start from the beginning: 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V and 19V tests for example, etc...
Do you think this is feasible for me? I...

Testing ATX PSUs under load - Does loading the ATX 24 pin also load EPS & PCIE?
                by AJ847.63e
                Hi Folks,

Just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding of mine (or what I expect is one). Isn't the 12V rail from the 24 pin, EPS and PCIE separated? IE if I put a power resistor on the ATX 12V pin that is not going to load, thus tell me if the EPS or PCIE rails are fine?

I was recently watching ArIs from Hardware Busters video on how to properly test ATX PSUs without using 5 figure Croma substations.

The PCB adapter he used breaks out the 12, 5 and 3.3V pins from the 24 pin and gives you banana plugs to connect to. That is a bit useless is it not? Aren't...

Troubleshooting 2xFailed Cooler Master v650 PSUs
                by Xebozone
I have a couple of these PSUs that have the exact same issue on both of them. I find it odd that they both exhibit the same Symptoms.

When plugged into the PC, the PSUs are able to power the LEDs inside the motherboard (the standby 5v circuit I suppose?) But as soon as the power button is hit, the PSU powers on for a split second, then there is a (relay?) click and the PSU shuts off. Hitting power does nothing after unless the power is removed and then turned on again.

I have a PSU tester which has the same results. As soon as the tester plugs in, it powers on for...

Panasonic TC-P55ST50 8 blinks then no blinks
                by Andre Gilbert
Hello! yes I know there is already lots of information about this issue. I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 that originally displayed an 8-blink error code. Following the troubleshooting flowchart, I ended up replacing the SS board. However, even after replacing it, the issue persists. The TV turns on and stays on without displaying an image, and continuity is confirmed on all connectors. What am I missing here🤔?
Ok Im a mechanical engineer ...but I thought I was able to follow a rather simple flowchart for electric troubleshooting 😂.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
                by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...
