Pete, your information is very useful.

I have previously seen all shapes of Y-caps. Orange beaded ones on a HP oscilloscope power supply. I don't know if that was noise/leakage or just the style of the times. It had some 5mVp-p of noise on the outputs ... pretty good.

tom66: What do you think of that 5vsb circuit? It is different in that it doesn't have any electrolytic capacitor (the critical one) on the primary side.
