Is it worth increasing capacitance on 1 and 10uf caps?

I have a little redundant power supply here from a really nice D-Link 24 port gigabit switch. The power supply has bulging CapXon caps (big surprise) I'm going to replace all the 16V ones. But what I'm wondering is, should I also replace the 1uf 50V, and 10uf 50V CapXon's with 22uf, 50V caps? I don't have 1uf and 10uf 50V caps, but is it even worth the time? Cause they're all CapXon's.

Depends where they are located and what the purpose is.

1uF may be used as decoupling capacitors though usually ceramic 0.1-0.47uF are used, not 1uF. If they're decoupling capacitors, they are used as a sort of low-pass/high-pass filters, to trim out spikes of voltage that may come on the circuit board.. going to high in capacity may not be a good idea.

They may also use as a RC combo, to make oscillators for some IC in which case if you change the 1uF value, you also change the frequency.

Post pictures and someone more experienced with redundant power supplies may be able to help you.

Generaly it is not good idea. I have also seen both cases when changing low-ESR ones for general purpose broke compensation and vice versa. Since last time I am always trying to find datasheet for the small ones and replace them with the right type. Also trying functioanlity of the PSU even during recap often to see whether last bunch of changed caps didn't break anything.

i think i accidently ordered non-polarized 10uf caps for my original xbox. will this cause a problem?

i ordered a lot of caps from digikey to repair my xboxs. one thing i ordered was 50NXA10MEFC5X11-ND caps and i think they are not polarized. will this cause any kind of a problem? i really don't want to order new caps just because of this.

Dell Optiplex GX260 - Advice Needed for Polymodding Motherboard
          by SwedishDiesel
          Howdy folks,

I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated. While from a practical standpoint it's not worth...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

          Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
          by eryjus
          Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
          by Paxman_Swede
          Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...
