DeSoldering Power Supply ReCap Bran New

I have one of these De-Soldering station already but the pump is NOT pumping like it did when I bought it so I bought a new

When I went to change De-Soldering station the new one it is allot lighter than the old one because the old one has a transformer

I had to open it up and find out why the new one has a switching power supply with Sancon caps in it they got replaced with FR and FC caps

It is very hard to get part for this De-Soldering station so I did not want to wait for one of those cap to take a crap

The power supply is 18 volts @ 12.8 amps this not a misprint

    ( 2 ) 2200 uf @ 25 volts
    ( 1 ) 470 uf @ 25 volts
    ( 2 ) 10 uf @ 25 volts
    ( 1 ) 150 uf @ 400 Volts

Re: De-Soldering Power Supply Re-Cap Brand New

When I bought the De-Soldering Station new before I re-cap it when you plug in the wall and push the power button it power ON for a second then power OFF then power ON it would do this about 2 or 3 time then it would stay on
as long as you did not unplug it from the wall it would not do this

When I recap it, it has done the same thing as above

Now that it has gotten cooler it dose this every time when you first turn it ON after it has been ON for a minute it will run the way it should every time after that you can turn it ON and OFF all you want and it will turn ON the way it should

What could be wrong this power supply This De-Soldering Station dose have a micro controller in it

Re: DeSoldering Power Supply ReCap Bran New

      Hi Sam_Sam_Sam,
I have the same de-soldering unit and I currently have my shop in my garage.
I was out here all winter and when the temperature dropped that's when my DS Station started that on-off-on-off-on-off (..for about 10 min) every time I turned it on until it finally started up properly. Now that the temperature outside is in the 60's/70's it doesn't do it more than once or twice before it starts. I don't have a solution for it yet or a diagnositc but I write this as a caviat for those considering buying one of these. They come in many guizes and manufacturer names but they're all the same Chinese crud.
It's worked for the most part pretty well with good suction for about a year but mine cracked at that base where the iron meets the gun (Plastic) weak point. Glue and a zip-strip solved that temporarily but I was still surprised at how cheap this thing actually is.
I got mine at M.P. Jones ( ..the have tons of webpages with different names on line. The entire first page of Google returns when the gun in googled) and when I bought it I asked about a warranty. When the sales person stopped laughing she checked with her manager and reported that they would warranty it for 6. months! (..there goes the whole reputable in reputable sellers. When the company won't even give you a year warranty on what they sell you know something is SERIOUSLY WRONG) Anyway, I was glad I got that and bought one anyway. Nice folks but hey, can't they make one of these in America any more?!! I'm pretty sure it'd be better quality. Same goes for damn near EVERYTHING we get from China now days. I say STOP BUYING IF IT"S MADE IN CHINA.
DEMAND the ol' MADE IN U.S.A be there before purchasing ANYTHING.
Anyway, (again) any and all repairs on these things is probably a step up in quality.
I can't even get a replacement gun now that mines broken as they're "Out of Stock".
Gotta love it. The essence of "Fly by night".

Any prices for the standalone soldering irons? Looks like he has some with ceramic heaters. My 60W Chinese iron stopped working some time ago. Definitely worth the $6 I spent on it though, got some great use out of it. I've never seen such a skimpy mains plug.

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                          Assuming...

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

I have a 24 volt version of the same type of switching power supply but that one I am relocating to meter module and I might do the same thing with this one but I have to modify an enclosure that is not made for this type of switching power supply in fact I am not sure exactly what type of switching power supply it actually fits because none of one's that I have the screws holes do not line up and not even close but the switching power supply fits in the enclosure

So I have take out the switching power supply board out of its enclosure and drill the hole so that it can be mounted...

18VDC PSU completely dead - ZD-915 desoldering station
                          by armini
                          Hi everyone!

Three years ago I got a ZD-915 desoldering station which failed just after a few months of light use. During a short desoldering session, the station simply shut down, and since then it has been completely dead and unresponsive. The failure was silent, without any pops.

Due to a lack of time, I set it aside and didn't look at it.

Yesterday, I took it apart and did some basic measurements. The 18v terminal shows 0v. In addition, there is no visible damage to the board itself.

According to replies in 18VDC PSU has dropped to...
