This Antec Neo HE550 is a lot worse off than i thought

This is the same PSU I recently posted in the PSU build quality thread. I got it for free and the computer shop cut off all the wires. I originally only saw one bad cap but when I took the PCB out, it looks like there are some other things wrong with it.

Looks like something here started to burn

This was the piece of plastic that was in between the secondary coils and heatsink from the picture above.....that thing got HOT!

Here's the modular plugin board, doesn't look too good

Soldering is meh but doesn't look like anything got too hot under here

What do you guys think happened? You'd think this thing would shut itself down before it got that hot, considering it has SCP, UVP, OPP, OCP, and OVP

With no OTP, though, it won't shut off from overheating.

That coil behind the bad cap looks like it is really roasted.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

You could probably save it, since the PCB doesn't look damaged. You'd have to replace the coil and caps, and remove any glue.

I think it could be saved too, sometimes when a cap goes it will overstress the filter coils.

EDIT: Oh, and remove all that yucky Evil Brown Glue

So do you think in that top picture, nothing is fried, the glue was just going conductive? And when I get home I'll check to see if the coil is damaged. I've seen coils painted black before Surprisingly, the rectifiers on the secondary aren't burned. But then again, those things can handle insane heat.

What about the modular board? Should I just clean that gunk off it?

No, the residual flux is from the soldering process.

I usually just scrape it off. The darker parts a more brittle from heat. They wil break easily

LG OLED C1 Pixel Cleaning Made Picture Worse
                        by rumi409
                         Hi,

I'm trying to resurrect a LG OLED C1 TV that has some panel banding. I used the TCON error bypass to get a picture. I was able to update the firmware as well. But when I performed a pixel cleaning to try to get the banding out, it made the image significantly worse. I tried to undo the effects of the pixel cleaning by performing a factory reset and IN_Stop, but that didn't work. Any way to reset pixel cleaning data?...

Topcat's Supermicro X10DAI Build - Plus NVMe BIOS Mod Inside
                        by Topcat
Yes, I know I don't post this stuff much anymore....the only reason I'm posting this one is because of a NVMe adapter incompatibility; seems rather planned by Supermicro.....or I'm atleast a bit suspicious. It's plenty new enough to have a UEFI bios but a short 'happy list' of NVMe controllers that will work with this board, as if by some 'miracle', all Intel....so lets start at the beginning; we'll get back to this later.

Of course the motherboard is as the thread title states; X10dai....but we'lre going to have some fun shoehorning this into a modern 'gamer case' that can actually...

                        by reformatt
I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.

As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...

Dell Latitude 7420 BIOS Unlock Gone Wrong
                        by Jeff'sTech
                        Hello everyone.

I have come here with a rather specific question. I was given a Dell Latitude 7420 laptop with a busted screen, and wanted to see if I could refurbish it into my daily driver. I wanted to experiment and see if a 2-in-1 display would work as the chassis of the laptop and 2-in-1 7420 looked identical. I threw in the display and my hypothesis was correct, however, I was greeted with a locked BIOS and since I didn't know the password, I figured I'd try to unlock it somehow. I bought one of those POGO pin probe things for my CH341A programmer so I could read and make...

Antec Earthwatts EA-380 smd element type/value
                        by sirpsychol
While recaping Antec Earthwatts EA-380 I've broke one side of unknown smd element, it have no print, it's flatter and darker than smd capacitors on this board, shaped more like resistor but it's not resistor ofc. Unfortunetly the printed description was under it and element was glued to the board so I cant read/tell the letter before element number too. Have anyone any idea what it is? Maybe is there any diagram of this PSU?
