    Delta dps-800 lb, HP 444096-001 XW8600 800W.

Anyone know much about this PSU? Looking to use it for a mid sized gaming rig with SLi video. Looks like its more than enough just havent seen them before.

I found this link but was looking for some first hand knowledge if available.

Delta are really good, I think you'll be fine. Looks a monster.

My only worries would be whether or not it would fit in a standard ATX case and if it needs external cooling (some server PSUs don't have fans.) Also is the pin out for the MB connector guaranteed the same?

Followup on this PSU now that I have had it awhile. It was well worth the $30 it cost me. Its a bit longer than a standard ATX and has great air flow. It has 2 PCI-e 6 pin connetors and not 3. The 3rd 6 pin connector (labeled P2) was orginally to connect to the motherboard of a XW8600 for memory power but by rearranging the 6 pins it can be used as a third 6 pin PCI-e power connector. For a 800W unit and it being 80% certified it fit the bill for my gaming rig just fine.

It looks similar to the DPS-750CB I used to use. That thing was built like a tank

You got this for $30? They want $50 now, but even at that it looks like a good deal. How much was the shipping and have you opened it to inspect the cap brands? I would like to get one if I had some extra $$$ to burn.

I paid about $50 for the DPS-750CB. FWIW, there are internal photos of it here (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=318)

Just beware, they don't often use 100% quality caps even in these high-power units. I have seen some 700W one full of craps.

Not that it won't hold for many years, it's Delta after all…just that we all used to say the same about Fortrons and last like a year I have seen every single FSP unit with at least some bulged/vented caps. They were 3-6 years old units. Just de-mounted 400W passive PFC one from server which was acting strangely and refused to start after shutdown.

I paid £6 (approx $10) for two 1200W IBM server supplies. 98A on 12.25V each, as well as 5V standby at 0.1A.

Behemot is right though. Although mine used Rubycon and Chemicon in the super critical places, it did have a few Taicon and Ltec. In a premium supply, that's not great :/.

Some of them use japaneese caps only on the most critical of critical places (before pi coils and so) and the rest is crap. The lower-power Deltas have it sometimes everywhere…

Well the 1200W used a forward topology, so the ripple current through the caps is limited...

But seriously, if any kind of high reliability server supply uses poor caps on the output, then I guess that signifies that NOTHING is made well these days.

I just disconnected one server (some random parts build, but in 1U chassis) and there is AcBel PSU. Definitely wanna have a look inside, they can do good supplies, but vast majority I have seen have been craps.
