HP DesignJet 5500 Power Supply

HP DesignJet 5500 Power Supply is not working does anyone know what Caps that could cause this to fail on the PS Board.
(It has volts +3, +5, -15) (It doesn’t have +12, +24, +36.)

First

Open up your power supply CAREFULLY
then look for burnt parts and bloated caps

If you have an ESR cap tester meter look for caps that have high ohm reading

I just repaired a Dell power supply for a printer

I found one mosfet
I found two caps with high ESR reading and these where not bloated

After changing these part the power supply works agian

I hope this helps

For all who want to repair HP DESIGNJET 5000 5500 Power supply's
Produced by Delta - DPS-386AP PN:2958006202
I repaired 3 Power Supplies' and found 2 relevant -1x 10 (C33) u 1x 47u (C35) bad caps.
I will add some Pictures
There were some other not good Caps - all 10, 22, 47 uF same manufacturer
But it is good to measure ESR (>30 Ohm)

I find a good measuring tool is ESR 70 measurement in circuits is possible

To test the PS you have to connect LPM (red wire) to ground (wakeup from STANDBY) and a resistor 1K from 24 V (orange)to ground - minimum current

Who knows the manufacturer of these caps? tec??

Ltec, they are common in cheaper Delta products. They seem to hold up relatively well in most Deltas but aren't as reliable as Japanese caps.

The mosfet next to the switching IC chip was the one I replaced and the switching IC chip as well as all the caps

Delta seems to really like Ltec and Taicon capacitors, they also seem to fail for everyone else a lot earlier than they do for them. I think the guys at Delta do their own in-house testing and don't blindly trust the datasheets provided by the cap manufacturers. But they do eventually fail.
