    Ultra X connect 500W

This was in my sister's fiance's computer. The sata connector kept popping off the hard drive, so I just decided to replace it with a better unit, being that these aren't that high quality in the first place but his computer isn't exactly power demanding. Good thing I pulled it out.

Yup, its one of these youngyear units.

Keen eyes might note the bulging of almost every piss yellow cap on the secondary. They're all Fuhjyuu unsurprisingly. Primaries are 1000uf Capxon's.

Keen eyes may have also noticed this, a whole zip tie was lodged in there. Nice job, QC and line workers.

    Yup, there they are. Bleh.

The CCFL ring around the top fan taps to some winding in the transformer. I found that interesting.

    Anyways, here's the technical stuffs:

Primary transistors: 2x 2SC3320's in half bridge
    Primary transformer is quite massive.
    12v is rectified by a 30A, 45V schottky
    5v is rectified by 2x 30A, 45V schottky's
    3.3v is rectified by a 40A, 45V schottky
    Bridge rectifier is a 8A, 500V unit

The window lets you see how many caps are bad.

      probably a keeper, though, after a re-cap
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

        Re: Ultra X connect 500W

It should do 500W fine, especially with that huge ERL44 transformer. Just needs a recap.

Here's a similar unit with a slightly smaller (ERL42) transformer that made it to 566.8W:
