    Topower TOP-420P4(420PII)

Has multiple bad caps. We don't think this unit has many hours on it... But nonetheless, the caps are definately dead.

I see two 3300uf 10v, one 2200uf 10v, and one 2200uf 16v, plus one I can't see the value on, and two small caps that look like they're bulged and cracked.

I don't think I'm going to be able to recap this unit because the components are too close together. Pics will be coming later in the day, both here and in the PSU build quality pictorial thread.

    Thanks,

    dood

I know... and I just don't think i'd be able to manage a recap with how close the caps are to the other stuff. Just not enough room to get my fingers in there.

Sounds like the fun I had with my CWT 420W I did yesterday. Some of the caps in there were much the same way... I had to be very careful with my needle nose pliers, but I finally managed to replace the important caps. One Panasonic FM was too tall and I had to bend the secondary heatsink slightly.

Had any of the more inaccessible ones needed doing, I would have been out of luck. Could have done it with a single layer PCB, the needle nose pliers, and my Soldapult to desolder them, but this was a dual layer nightmare.

Recapping will be easy if you remove the heatsink completely. I've done it many times - but for replacing a bad component on it, not for recapping.
