GALE 4G WHL MB-18709-2 unkown IC gets hot

    Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my motherboard (GALE 4G WHL MB-18709-2, model 15-cn1103ng). The problem is that one IC near the battery connector gets hot, causing the system to enter a boot loop — it powers on briefly with the fan spinning, then shuts down again after about a second.

    IC shows:

    7J=5J
    T3J

I've attached a picture of the IC in question. If anyone can identify this component or has seen a similar issue, I'd really appreciate your help!

    Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for the previous help – I’ve finally fixed that issue. But now the motherboard wants to challenge me again.

I’ve discovered a short on the USB PD controller (TPS65987). I replaced it with a new one, and now the board powers on – but still doesn’t POST.

I’m wondering: Do I need to program anything, like SPI flash memory or configuration files for the TPS65987?

There are three SPI flash chips on the bottom of the board:
      • One is clearly for the BIOS.
      • The other two are possibly for the EC (embedded controller) and the PD controller?

From what I understand, the TPS65987 requires external SPI flash with a valid configuration, otherwise it might fail silently or stay in a low-power mode.

I’ve already desoldered one of the chips (a Macronix MX25L2006E), dumped its contents, and verified that it’s not empty (so at least some data is present). But I’m not sure whether this config is valid, corrupted, or even related to the PD controller at all.

If anyone has experience with reprogramming PD firmware or knows what tools might help here – I’d be very grateful for any tips or directions.

      Thanks in advance!

      Best regards

If you want the PD firmware start a new thread in the bios requests section, and include the laptop serial number, board number and your dumps - https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...-requests-only
Some of the newer HP laptops do include a PD firmware update in the bios update package.

A unprogrammed PD-Controller will not result in no-P.O.S.T. as long as the device can be powered from the proprietary Jack and/or from battery. IF the PD-Controller is indeed the origin herr (which is not very likely) then it's caused by technician fault (soldering failure).

So is strongly assume you're on the path here.

MacBook Pro 16" 2019 A2141 Issue (powers on)
            by Stephen
Board powers on, holds charge it seems, track pad clicks, display is working etc. When trying to boot it turns itself off and then boots again and repeats. If it stays at GLOBE icon it will not turn off. Customer needs data, enabled THUNDERBOLT Mode, plugged in Thunderbolt cable, but error comes "THIS DISK CANNONT BE UNLOCKED DUE TO AN ERROR" I can't even input a password. Did a soft restore to retain data to see if it will solve any firmware issues. Nothing, I do not want to restore the computer because the customer needs the data, computer stays on completely when at Globe or...

Three 820-01700 32GB Logic Boards Same Issue: Won't Wake From Hibernate
            by ugamazing
I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...

Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100 - BIOS Issue, Black Screen
            by wizard13
            Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a BIOS-related issue with my Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100. When I power on the laptop, the screen stays black, and there is no response from the system. I suspect a corrupted BIOS.

I have checked the forum and the available documentation but could not find a solution specific to my issue.

Acer Helios 500 (PH517-51) - unexpected reboots when laptop is warm (cold solder joint issue?)
            by Mirenia
            Hi everyone,

got an Acer Helios 500 Laptop (PH517-51) for diagnosing with a strange issue:

The laptop runs for a while (1-2 hours, sometimes less) and then suddenly shuts completely off, like someone pulled the power cord and restarts immediately after on its own.
If this happened once, then the laptop only runs for a few minutes until restart.
This happens regardless while staying in windows or uefi or in a linux environment.

At first I thought of a normal overheating issue, but as I monitored temps with HWInfo64, nothing seems very hot.
