Latitude 7420 - BIOS repair possible?

    Hi,
I finally got managed to desolder my BIOS-Chip and create a dump.

My Latitude 7420 won't post, but keyboard-backlight and fans are on.

    Mainboard: GDC31 LA-K371P Rev:3.0(A02)
    BIOS-Chip: Winbond w25r256jv
    Service-Tag: 9SWP2J3

Can you please have a look at it and maybe fix it?

Nope, no image on external monitor. Capslock on internal keyboard lights up permanently. External Keyboard is not recognized.
I already tried flashing BIOS with a bootable USB-Stick (solution from Dell support page) and NVRAM-Reset. But nothing works

It's under highest Dell support service plan "Pro Support Plus" until 26 SEPT 2024. It's best to contact the manufacturer first for a warranty repair before you've made things worse by trying to do it yourself.

Yes, I also suspected that my BIOS file is much too large.
But it is exactly what I read out of the chip using the programmer.

So is this maybe a mistake of my programmer or is something really wrong with my BIOS?

Vesko356 The Laptop was gifted to me. So I had no proof of ownership and unfortunately no longer contact to the gifter.
Do you think I can try to contact the support despite it?

Yes of course. At least try, it's possible they won't ask you for any papers, besides the warranty support level is highest possible as I said, and the location of the warranty is exactly in Germany.

              Thanks a lot!!!!

I flashed the chip with your file and soldered it back onto the board.
But now the laptop seems completely dead. Only the LED lights up in red as long as I press the power button.
              No charging and no reaction.
Maybe I shorted/damaged something while soldering (I will check this tomorrow)

              P.S: I am a she and not a he

Hi Rex98 that brings the machine to life but it won’t recognise the ssd and flashes 2 amber and 8 white leds. This was a working machine prior to the failed bios update. Any suggestions

                                    Hello everyone.

I have come here with a rather specific question. I was given a Dell Latitude 7420 laptop with a busted screen, and wanted to see if I could refurbish it into my daily driver. I wanted to experiment and see if a 2-in-1 display would work as the chassis of the laptop and 2-in-1 7420 looked identical. I threw in the display and my hypothesis was correct, however, I was greeted with a locked BIOS and since I didn't know the password, I figured I'd try to unlock it somehow. I bought one of those POGO pin probe things for my CH341A programmer so I could read and make...

BIOS update wont complete - Dell Latitude 7420
                                    by Julian Bailey
                                    Hi all

Anyone come across this issue where a BIOS flash will only part complete?

It will update the system BIOS and Primary EC BIOS fine but fails to update the Intel TBT Retimer, Intel TBT Retimer 2 and ME Firmware.

NVMe m.2 drive isnt detected in the BIOS, but you can get into the BIOS fine and it all works in there as intended.

The drive works fine in another laptop.

Link to a video I made of what its doing here:

Any ideas on how to overcome this?

                                    Cheers...

                                    Hi

i have dell latitude E7270 with following symptoms:
                                    - takes long time to restart.
                                    - sometimes powers on and then off
                                    - sometimes while working it just dies,

From googling online bios clean could possible resolve this?

i was able to save bios and was going to try bios clean myself but get an below error when i drop it in ME analyzer.(unsure whether this sometimes occurs or could be due to bad/corrupt bios)

As ME analyzer gave me an error i just decided to write bios with a cleaned bios from E7270 bios post.
                                    I reinstall...

                                    Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a dead MSI GP75 Leopard (MS-17E71) motherboard (i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU) with a no display/no backlight issue initially. After extensive investigation, I’m at a critical stage involving EC firmware, BIOS/ME region interaction, and possible deep corruption. I'm seeking advanced insight from anyone with experience in EC/BIOS sync issues or PCH-level behavior. Here’s a full breakdown:
                                    🧩 Initial Issue
                                    • Board powers on (fans spin, keyboard lights up and can be adjusted, caps lock led lights), but no display or backlight
                                    • External display (HDMI) shows
                                    ...

3 amber 3 white blinks. Dell website sais it's problem "bios recovery" and suggested solution "recovery image not found"
                                    (from here https://www.dell.com/support/manuals...e7a&lang=en-us)

I try plugging charger while pressing ctrl+esc, machine turns on, nothing and after 20 seconds it gives 3 amber 3 white blinks again.

Since ssd is replaced and had clean install windows, i've...
