    I need help with Elitebook 830 G7

Please if anyone could help. I have a Elitebook 830 G7 and it has an admin password. I tried to desolder the chip and accidentally ruined the chip from trying to remove it with tweezers, the chip is dead now. I also tore off two small pads where the chip was soldered. Assuming fixing the pads can I buy a new chip and install a bios dump file in it and be good to go? I don't have any old locked dump. My chip is MX25L12872F

Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks.

See attached. You may be ok here. The INSIDE pads that appear to be ripped off the PCB are for a nested and smaller flash memory device.

That is, the PCB designer will layout the PCB so that if some component is unavailable in one physical size, then the assembly group will purchase alternate devices and still allow for the PCB to be assembled. We do this all the time and for example, on our SOT-23 components, we nest inside the smaller SC-70 package. SC-70 package is about 50% the size of the SOT-23 for the 2N7002 mosfet (as an example).

Confirm with the meter that the outside traces (thick yellow in the attached) are still present.

Post a pic of your flash device - it may be ok as well.

Thanks for the reply, I checked with the meter and they are still fine, here are the pics of the flash attached.

So you are saying that I can place a bigger chip with the same size like 8*6mm?

The traces look fine, above you have some pics of the flash. Thanks

          1) The original flash memory is damaged and cannot be used.

          2) See attached. It appears that the damaged flash device is the smaller WSON package. You can check the measurements by reviewing with a ruler and comparing the dimensions shown at the end of the attached datasheet.

Fairly sure the PCB will be ok to use the larger 8 pin SOP package but again, check against the dimensions in the datasheet.

Purchase the SAME part # but with the proper suffix to define the SOP package.

Digikey appears to have the SOP (larger pad) size part in stock but do confirm the dimensions against your PCB and this datasheet.

Assuming everything fits well, then do I need to create a thread on Bios Requests and then give the serial nr of the board and hope someone will post the bios dump file of that particular board? Thanks
